'happens due to an acute case of malnutrition'. - The mother has to take responsibility she should have eaten properly.

The Mirror's high reporting standards mixing up Acquired Ichthyosis, a relatively minor skin disorder affecting adults, with Harlequin Ichthyosis - the condition the baby in the story is suffering.

Awful condition but I believe it can be lived with. Poor kid. Hopefully she'll receive the care she needs.
As minsta has said, it's genetic not environmental.

Rilot, spot on.

I find it disturbing the mirror even turned "deformity" into a hyper link linking to dozens of "freakshow" stories they run.

But it says the kid has a less rhan 1 in 10 million chance of survival and it will never have a reall life

Surely this is a case where a dignified end is best. High dose of sedative etc

As a Father and Grandfather that really has upset me. That is simply a baby laying there crying and wanting love while a room full of people point cameras and generally scare the poor mite. Doesn't anyone care that this is a poor innocent baby that has as much right to life and to be loved as you and me? Or are we still at the stage where we drown disabled and disfigured children at birth as the OP suggested?

The OP is just being a keyboard warrior, he wouldn't say crass things like that to random people in RL, it would get physical pretty quickly. Believe me.

Poor thing :( I really hope they find a loving home for her, as clearly where the baby is now, she's not going to get that

Quite upsetting :(

Tough break, poor little sod.
If it were in the UK I'd give it a chance at living a while but it's India so bad news for the poor bugger.

Actually as cruel as it sounds I doubt they would have got that far in pregnancy in the UK I'm sure the babies problems would been identified early.

Terrible shame.

So a crowd of people turn up at the hospital to go and have a look as though this is a freak show and the medical staff discharge the poor kid to parents who don't exactly seem like they're going to give it great care.

Pretty ****ed up tbh...

Stories like this dont usually phase me but we are expecting our first child in August and this has really bothered me and the way its been reported is absolute filth.

I will say it to anyone's face, it's my opinion I couldn't care less that a lot of other people disagree with me.
It's something i feel strongly about I wouldn't want anything like this for my children.
