Anyone regret going 40" 4k?

Just bought a 1070, might be able to stretch to £500 for a decent monitor for the house/gaming PC.


After reading the Samsung 40KU6400 thread, it piqued my interest, just wondered if anyone regrets going 40" 4k? Or is the current series of gfx cards making owning a 4k worth it?

I've never gamed on a 40" in 1080p, unsure how it is really, and no way to try - my other rig is 2560x1600 dell 30" with 680 SLi. I might add a PSpro to this setup as well, VR is my thing & exclusive psvr titles will probably sucker me in
 
I'm playing on 1080p @ 40'' now (connected to my PC), but not on the best TV really (Panasonic TX-40C300B) - though not too bad either, hard to complain for £150. I think for the most part it's quite a good experience but there's some times where I wish I'd gotten a 4K one, though I'm not quite sure if it's more a matter of contrast&colours rather than pixel density (I play like 2-3m from it so it makes more of an impact than if I were further away). It works best with 3rd person games (playing DmC, Deadlight, GTA V, Saints Row 3, DX:MD atm) but was playing Shadowrun HK on it too last night and actually was a very good experience (text-heavy game so you'd expect it to be fatiguing on the eyes, but no).

So, if I don't regret 1080p @ 40'' I don't think I'd regret 4K @ 40'' either (though getting what I'd consider a significant improvement in experience is gonna end up costing £3k overall). That being said, I do have a BenQ XL2430T I switch to if I feel like it so I'm having a bit of the best of both worlds really.

I switched from a dell 30" to a 43" samsung ks7500 and love it.
My current gpu isn't the best so i'm using custom resolutions for games until l upgrade, but I really like having the extra desktop space too.
 
yeah its one of those things I'll probably have to try. I don't think i'll mind - I prefer pixelated & smooth rather than pretty & 30fps anyway.

As an aside, how is Shadowrun? I haven't played many games in the last 4-5 years, my wishlist is full up of really good titles & keeps growing as I have loads of gaming time now!

ooh that's a sexy monitor. A bit out of my price range though. How do you find the curved aspect?
 
Im on the Ilyama 40" 4k and absolutely love it on every game I have tried. :) No regrets at all.

Even running at 1440p is fine on games
 
I had a 40" UHD monitor for a while last year but what made me switch to a 21:9 screen with a curve was that sitting close to a monitor that large I felt it was almost convex with the middle feeling close the corners too far. Might just have been me though!

At £650 it actually cost approx. £400 less than my Dell 3007WFP HC monitor did many years ago :p
The picture is *really* good, far far better than the Dell
The curve is quite minimal really, but I think it helps with viewing angles of the outer edges/corners.

haha I got a U3011 at the studio so, yeah. I have less money now to spend on gear, but lots of time to use it ;)

interesting the picture is better, because its fantastic on my U3011 & they are pretty much the same, right?


Interesting about the curve aspect being important as well for up-close gaming

Your monitor is a little newer than mine. My Dell was purchased maybe 9 years ago now and it has been well used over that time and probably degraded quite a bit too. I used it as my main screen for watching videos and playing games with no complaints and I thought it was fine up until I purchased a new screen and put them side by side.
The TV has better colour accuracy and black levels and next to the Dell it's like night and day, the Dell just looks washed out like there's a haze over the screen.

You played shadow warriors on it? or any HDR game - ? I really want to know just how jaw dropping HDR is - i dont know the difference in our monitors but if its night & day from mine I would wet my knickers & now this thread is making me want a KS series or equivalent. The only thing is the legs are sexy but very impractical for my bedroom.

I wonder do they do universal wall-mount-stands
 
I've considered going 40" TV route - but found that, while TVs are generally good in "generic picture" quality, they tend to be quite awful in *solid colour uniformity* (and that to say modern large monitors already nothing to write home about in this regards). But on (LCD) TV I've seen on any sheet of solid colour DSE effect is ridiculous, its nothing I consider "solid colour".
The only ones are best in these regards are OLEDs, now just to wait till somebody makes OLED of manageable size to put on desk as monitor ;)

Oh it's fantastic if you're into Cyberpunk, really enjoyed them and I wasn't even aware of its history. Hong Kong is a bit more text-heavy than Returns or Dragonfall, but quite good otherwise. Dragonfall though.. a masterpiece.

@Poneros - i'll add it to my list, i love cyberpunk & isometric RPGs.


I've literally only played one or two games in the last 5 years :eek: - got some serious catching up to do. My wishlist of games to try is about 20 deep now

3 days now using a 55KS7000 in my bedroom for the PS4 Pro and tested it with my PC also.

There is no word to describe the experience.
Some might say " TV boo high input lag, low refresh rate" etc.
Meh, NEVER loaded a game, stood at one place and looked the world around for half hour drooling. Nor observing the fine detail and damn amazing colours!

You can always give it a try tbh. And Pyr0m@nI@]{ did a fine choice for using the 43KS7500. The image quality on the Samsung quantum dot TVs (7000/7500/8000/9000) is amazing and they all come with ~20ms input lag, which makes them ok for gaming.

I cant wait till these quality panels get small enough to go in VR headsets.

it will happen some day !


Now I need to find the money to replace my DK2 and the extra ~£3/350 for something like a KS7/7500. I am next to westfield shopping centre so i'll go and have a look at them sometime
