How do people pay for cars nowadays? I'm in the market for a new to me car and just wondered what the best way would be. Since it's a 7 grand budget I don't fancy cash at all so my favourite would be bank transfer.

Thoughts?

Depending on your bank, on line Bank transfer, or go into a branch and do the transfer there

Simple bank transfer, probably from your app if you've added the person to your payables.

Failing that, walk into a bank and do it there, although that seems unnecessary these days.

Bank Transfer - takes about 2hrs. If you go into the bank and do it expect lots of "are you sure?" "the car is definitely going to be there?" etc lol

I didn't have any problems like that with natwest.
Just went to the counter and withdrew it, no questions asked.

They get lots of other stuff wrong but it was easier than I expected.

2 hours since when? 99% of banks are instant 24/7.

Most are instant, but Faster Payments can take up to 2 hours and also have a limit - albeit i think the OP's budget is under that limit for most banks.

When i bought my last car i paid a small "deposit" on the credit card for the protection, and then bank transferred the rest into the dealerships account - thankfully it went through instantly.

But OP just needs to be aware that if the transfer isn't instant, he could be waiting around a couple of hours for it to clear.

Yes the potential 2 hour wait could be annoying but I'd probably use at least two hours going to a bank and getting cash so it isn't really as bad as all that .unless the seller is a douch of course in which case it could be a really long 2 hours ...

I guess I also need to check with seller he'll accept a direct transfer....
