Anyone regret going 40" 4k?

I switched from a dell 30" to a 43" samsung ks7500 and love it.
My current gpu isn't the best so i'm using custom resolutions for games until l upgrade, but I really like having the extra desktop space too.

Need photos of this :)

I cant wait till these quality panels get small enough to go in VR headsets.

it will happen some day !

Now I need to find the money to replace my DK2 and the extra ~£3/350 for something like a KS7/7500. I am next to westfield shopping centre so i'll go and have a look at them sometime

Rift & Vive use OLED. I haven't used them, but expecting have better quality?

The TVs are just VA panel, LED with some trickery Samsung is using named "quantum dot".

Nothing can be compared if you do not see the TV in person at your local store. Especially if they have bothered to properly configure them.

I was going to look at 40KU6400 and bought a 55KS7000. The colours and picture quality one next to the other, were completely unparalleled.

KS7500 is the curved version of the KS7000 and "the local store of known big chain" had both the 43 & 49 KS75000 properly configured and the 43KS7500 as monitor was stunning.

Also an FYI.
In north America the KS8000 series is the same as the European KS7000 series. And the KU7000 in North America is the same as the KU6400 here.
If you read reviews online about it.

totally confused by your post ... so you say you bought a ks7000 but mention the ks7500 as stunning. So did you just purchase the ks7000 and not the 7500 - and the 7500 is only the curved version of the 7000 right?
btw hows that tv work for regular computer use and can you have it on your desk etc?

7500 also more expensive, ive seen £150 difference, not sure how much it was back then

it does look deskable - 110cm needed of surface for the legs. (which are very wide apart).

Ok, so going back to these Ks 7 series -

What is bad about them?

60Hz limitation and no adaptive sync tech would be the biggest drawbacks over a dedicated PC monitor, but to get either at this size in a PC monitor is impossible... only thing that comes close is the X34/PG348Q Gsync or Samsung CF791 Freesync. The latter is VA (same as the KS7000), but the others are IPS, which means better colour accuracy if you're doing professional work, but blacks aren't as deep, better viewing angles and less motion smearing, although I don't know how well the KS700 fares in that department, but the CF791 does suffer with it based on user comments I've read. The back panels on the KS7000 are supposedly iffy, and have been known to come away (I think this is because they're just glued on). The biggest complaint I read about this TV is motion judder, which seems to affect some panels but not others. How this may impact gaming I do not know, but I've read loads of TV user reviews finding it distracting in sports and fast paced movies.

cool thanks.

I keep getting sidetracked and thinking how i'm going to get £1500 if I fall in love with an OLED.

What makes it funnier is that I am gaming at home on a TN and it is such a bad picture i'm just laughing at it - only just got it the other day (cheapo eBay BenQ to tide me over) and already i'm sick of it.

I cant take the IQ loss going from my Dell IPS to a washed out TN. its yucky

TN needs to die a death, I agree with you there. The only reason it's stuck around is because it's cheap and remains the fastest, with it being the only route to 144Hz gaming for many people. This will change in the future of course, but for now I don't see TN going anywhere.

The issue with TV's from my personal point of view is the 60Hz limitation... if you're used to faster (even on TN) than you may find the drop quite hard to stomach. It can be subjective though. Personally, I'm staying away from TV's at least until we see HDMI 2.1 implementation... at least then 4K will be able to be pushed beyond 60Hz, assuming you have a GPU capable of doing so. Of course, by that time we should be seeing HDR PC monitors on the market.

Just at John Lewis.

Those Samsung are lush but they have the LG oled right next to them conveniently

The inky blacks own everything really don't they, helps so much to have an actual comparison next to each other

My current main monitor is the Philips 43" 4k and I would never go back to a smaller screen. At 43" the text is comfortable readable, games look amazing, I play DOTA2, CSGO, Titanfall 2 on it all the time, my 1080 handles the FPS without issue. Games that struggle at 4k can be tweaked to keep it smooth because janky frames don't look great but other than that I can't fault it. If your desk is big enough you owe it to yourself to get one.

My dream monitor would be a curved 44/43" 120hz 10/12bit 4K HDR VA panel. I'd buy four.

Are those 1500 quid lgs 60hz at 4k?

It is impossible for it to be more given the limitations of HDMI 2.0 and absence of DP 1.4 on any TV. There isn't even a PC monitor available yet that can run faster than 60Hz 4K, but they are on the way. Even with a faster panel (which very few TV's have anyway), you will always be limited to 60Hz until more connectivity options are available.

You asked for the 7500 yes?
7500 is the curved version of the 7000 and both are stunning. Exactly the same spec. And yes at "the local chain" both were next to the KU6400 and I could compare the demo it was playing, which included games.

But I bought the 7000 because I wanted the 55" one for the bedroom and not for my desk.

@Legend.. Yeah ive been reading about 2.1 so know the specs better now. But we don't know if it's coming in the 2017 models, correct? Id love to be future proofed.

I guess at least waiting for the newer models to be teased might help me decide to wait or not. I do want Something this year really

I doubt it. Specs have only just been announced, and the 2017 TV models will have had their specs laid out months ago. I always thought it would be 2018 before 2.1 appeared. Plus, 99% of TV owners don't need it, so I can't quite see any manufacturer racing to get it out there at additional expense for those few PC owners who would actually benefit.

We will be seeing HDR PC monitors later this year though supposedly, with Freesync and Gsync, so that's something to keep an eye out for.

I grew up on CRTs & I've kinda fallen for the epic contrast of the OLEDs with HDR - out of everything in the shop I kept walking back to the LG B & C models. I make a lot of art & the image looked like I have just made some art and freshly printed it out on a bit of good glossy paper

An HDR OLED monitor with 120hz 4K at 40" would be perfect, but is that likely soon & how much will that set me back i wonder  Otherwise I might just go for one of those LGs - the only decision is 3D w/ curve (C) or flat without (B), and i'll probably go C, only £50 more.

Yeah that's the dream, but I don't think we'll be seeing dedicated OLED PC monitors for a couple of years yet. They will milk LCD for every last drop before that happens, and HDR will only increase its lifespan.

We may see OLED TV's (at bigger 50"+ though) with that kind of faster panel sooner, but the price will be extortionate.

yeah I can see prices being sky high..

I think a nice LG C6, with some passive 3D for older games, put up with the current state of VR, just be happy with 4k @ 60hz is my best bet.

Oh, and bask in the glory that is the image quality.

We ain going to see OLED monitors.
The Dell one is been scrapped, because they cannot resolve the issues, while LG has spent time and money in vain also trying.

The best we can have are the OLED screens Rift and Vive have.
