Hey, so I've been looking for a place to download an original ISO for Windows 10 Pro for re-installation but am coming up empty, normally you would be able to find them on all sorts of university FTP sites or whatever but Google doesn't seem to like giving FTP results anymore and the ones it does find are the anniversary update versions.

Any ideas? (The Microsoft site only has the anniversary update version because they suck).

It's pro I need but the tool lets you select between home/pro at installation, the issue I have though is that my system is incompatible with the anniversary update and so I need to re-install original Windows 10 and enable the defer upgrades to prevent it re-downloading the anniversary update. Sadly the tool now has the AU as standard.

A quick google brought up this: http://windowsiso.net/windows-10-is...-164/windows-10-th2-u2-iso-download-standard/ for the latest Threshold 2 build - I guess these are the files you want (I copied the hashes from MSDN if you want to check them):

Isn't the Anniversary Update newer?

Yea sorry, my bad. I guess my question then is: Why wouldn't you want the AU? Surely Windows Updates will just update to it anyway?

You can only do this with Pro and Enterprise though, and it will presumably cease to be an option at some point.

Seriously. What is wrong with me today. My brain just could not see that post. I re-read the thread a number of times and just didn't see it. Thank you for being so patient with me :p

What exactly is the system specs and why is it not compatible with AU? Did it upgrade to AU and that's when you started having problems? Did you try a refresh to see if that solves it, in case the upgrade botched something up?

I have absolutely no idea, my system ran flawlessly since installing W10 on release then just because Christmas I installed the anniversary update because I wanted to try out the new Bash shell, and after that I started getting random lockups. The screen would freeze and the system would become completely unresponsive with sound continuing on for a while, no option other than to reset the machine.

Try a clean install with a fresh AU image, and see how that goes, could've been just a bad update. I might have an old ISO of Windows 10 somewhere on one of my external storage but I'm at work at the moment.

EDIT: Found a home + pro TH2 ISO at work but 10 hours to upload... got to love being in a non-fibre area :p.

Is the link I posted above no good then? :(

Exact system specs are:

Intel i7 4930K (stock clocks)
Crucial Ballistix Sport 32GB Quad Channel Kit DDR3-1600 UDIMM VLP
ASUS Rampage IV Gene (X79, latest BIOS)
MSI GeForce GTX 980Ti Gaming 6144MB
Intel 400GB 750 Series PCIe 3.0 X4 HHHL Adaptor NVMe Solid State Drive (W10 boot drive)
Samsung 250GB 840 SATA-III SSD (old Windows 8.1 boot drive)
OCZ 480GB Vertex 2E Bigfoot 3.5" SATA-II SSD

Not sure any other bits are relevant, but I have no idea what MS broke in the AU to cause this.

Yeah, I thought the same after I realised an old 8.1 partition was still working flawlessly so it couldn't be a hardware fault (baring the boot drive), but after fresh installing to another drive with an AU image I ended up with the exact same issue (so not the boot drive either).

Thanks for that, gonna burn a disc and try installing tonight :)

When I saw your specs I was about to point you to a thread on the GeForce forums, but I see you're already there and the issue still seems to be unresolved. I suppose at this point your best bet is to hold out until the Creator's Update release and hope it fixes things - it will undoubtedly break something else, but maybe you'll get lucky this time.

I understand the full name of the next release will be "Creator's Update New Technology."

TBH I just read it and missed all the same things! :)

I was thinking OP wanted an original ISO as in a non modified one/customised patched one, so the AU update would've been the latest one to get.

Thanks to everyone that helped, after installing 1511 and blocking it from installing 1607 I feel safe in saying the issue is 100% down to a bug/flaw in the 1607 anniversary update.

Its silly but I find the best places for untouched Windows iso's of specific versions are torrent sites. needed to format girlfriends laptop, wanted a copy of Win 7 home ed. as that's what she had a key for, MS site wouldn't accept my key because it was oem and told me to contact Sony, grabbed an iso elsewhere, installed, chucked key in and it activated with no messing around. Really wish that digital foundry site still freely hosted all iso's
