After getting my tax refund sorted for working away for the last couple of years I spent this morning at my local Audi dealer after a number of weeks doing the rounds of the german exec car dealers and popping into Lexus, Infini and jag as well.
I have set my sights on a new S5 and after an hour in the drivers seat it ticks all my boxes. fast enough to make your heart pound, sensible enough to seat 4 people unless they are all giants like me. Drives nicely and sticks to the road like glue without being as "lively" as the BMW.
I know allot of people think its a boring choice, some of the reviews say its not exciting to drive but if you don't get a smile on your face when you floor that V6 and then their is something wrong with you or your expectations are on a different scale.
Rather than signing on the spot i have come home to think it over..... Now i am torn between my sensible thoughts:
I could just Dump the money off my mortgage,
Do i really need a 350 bhp car,
If its parked at the station all day how long before some dirt bag dings it.
My 8 year old from new A4 is still perfectly ok even if it is getting old.
But that is countered by:
V6 3.0l Turbo!
Fancy Virtual cockpit
Flappy paddles
Toys on the Toys
Shinny and new.
RGB lighting in the footwells (I **** you not that and seat massages were all my wifes comments apart from squealing when i booted it off a roundabout)
Its the midlife car for me, i'm too big to drive anything sporty @ 6'7" my legs are wrapped around the wheel in a TT and after 15 mins i was in agony. so its going to have to be a Executive Coupe, didnt like the inside of the Merc and BMW dont do the xdrive with any real power and i love AWD for the twisty and often slippery country roads i drive every day.
Guess I will sleep on it and try and make my mind up.
