taking your shoes off when you go to someone's house.

I get offended because they are assuming that I won't take them off, only chavs don't take off as default.

RUBBISH ! Chavs are more likely to have stupid white carpets which necessitate taking your shoes off. Nobody I know takes their shoes off indoors, unless they are obviously muddy, but then we have always been an outdoor type family with dogs running around. Wooden floors for the win ! :D

Isn't it just more comfortable to take shoes off at home etc.
Those with hard floors don't want them ruining by high heels.
It's not just about keeping the floors clean surely it's also about comfort. I'm sure there are those who like to walk around their homes in boots etc but I've never known anyone who always wore shoes in the house.

I take my shoes off if asked. I go bare foot in my own home but I care not a jot if other people take their shoes off when they're here.

What do people talking about shoes as outdoor only wear do at work?

I will walk around the office with my shoes off sometimes.

no of course not, if their house is carpeted or even if its not but they want to keep it clean, taking shoes off is a good way of keeping the inside in good condition. Rather than dragging whatever crap you have on your shoes from outside, inside.

Personally we have wood flooring throughout the entire house so shoes are fine, although I would always offer to take mine off before entering someone elses house.

Conversely I find my trainers more comfortable than not having anything on at all though that is probably partly due to spending most of my life wearing something on my feet versus nothing.
