I purchased a GTX 780 from the MM and it's a great card, plays everything fine but the 480 8GB is on offer for £200

Anyone know if this would actually be a worthwhile upgrade at 1080p

It won't be a huge upgrade but an upgrade nonetheless. Do it for dx11 though (which exists) rather than the somewhat fictional dx12

Depends a lot how decent boosting the 780 is and how much you play the small number of recent games where Kepler struggles.

If its a A1 780 that boosts to around 1000MHz you'd see much more gains going to a 480 than a decent boosting B1 780 which can be ~20% faster than the A1 cards.

Depends a bit - is saving up for something like a 1070 feasible? as (and I did) I'd want a bit more than a 480 if I was going to change from any semi decent boosting/overclocked 780.

I wouldn't bother. You'll be £100 out of pocket for not a massive bump in performance. Mightn't even notice without an FPS counter.

Your 450W is fine for a single 780 and "normal" CPU.

The RX 480 is a lot faster in most things, about twice as fast at best but its not worth buying one for £200 if you already have the 780.

Depends the A1 cards go to about 11xxMHz usually on mainstream cooling and the B1 1250-1350MHz or so. Some luck people got B1s that do 1400MHz without too much trouble.

Trying to think if it's worth it..... The 480 is less power hungry which is ideal for my 450W PSU

Well, some things to think about.

The 480 is faster and is improving all the time. For any future games been released it will be much better.

The 780 is going to keep going down in value, so if you sell it for a decent price now it might be the best you can do.

£199 is a fantastic price for the 480. It's a pretty cheap upgrade if you sell your 780. People have paid more for a less of a performance jump.

You will have a new 480 with warranty, which will be an easier sell further down the road if you decide to switch again.

Do it, a 480 at £199 is a great price, if you can sell your 780 for £70 or £80, then the 480 is only costing £130. It's no brainer to me.

Also to add to that, for the 780 it won't retain the same high performance for new games as when it was at it was a current gen card for new games that were release around same period or older titles, as Nvidia won't be spending the effort as they did then to optimised for new games- think of it as planned obsolescence.
