FAO EK Luc - Predator leak caused damage

Yuck!

Did you open a ticket on our website?

Yes, thanks. OCUK will exchange the cooler, and EK Blocks will cover the rest of the damage, thankfully. I was asked to photograph everything and provide cost estimates, and they will arrange for collection. We'll see.

It's hard to complain at this point, but since I'm still in a foul mood, here we go :)

1) Can't OCUK or EK pick up the return cost for the cooler please? It's a big and heavy box, and I want to send it express, so it will not be a trivial cost, I imagine.
2) How long will it take for me to receive the replacement cooler and refund, I wonder? The damaged products will have to be received and examined first, apparently. And then I have to buy replacements for everything and put it all back together... arghh. I know I'm just moaning at the universe at this point, but...
3) More importantly, how I can be sure the replacement cooler won't leak again? The thought of starting another fire in my flat (however brief it was) terrifies me! Have EK Blocks really worked through the issues of the rev.1 model? How can I be sure this was an isolated case?

To your last question, no.

Did you have a leak as well? :( I received the 1.1D revision as a replacement, after two painful weeks of waiting, but so far so good. I check it for leaks every few days... I still haven't bought a graphics card, in case it gets destroyed again. By the time the Ti comes to the market, I will probably decide that I trust it not to leak. We'll see :).

To anyone reading this, make sure to insist on revision 1.1D or later, when you are buying the Predator 360...

UPDATE: I just read your other post. So there's worse :(

By the way, I just remembered. The red LED at the top of the predator stopped working sometime within the first two weeks. The 1.1D replacement. According to the manual, this is super serious, but everything kept working the same, and EK says it should be OK to ignore. Well, whatever, I have now made up my mind! At the next sight of trouble, I'm ditching water cooling and jumping back to air cooling. Peace of mind is more important than anything else.

Hey EK Luc (sorry, no idea how to send you a PM),

It's been almost two months now and still no refund. The EK RMA people are taking a week at a time to basically reply with "please wait more". Today, I finally received an "offer", which is half of what I paid for the replacements! I don't want to speculate about what is happening... Maybe it's been so long that they forgot that the prices I gave them were in pounds, and that I had three components damaged, not just the motherboard.

I sent back a reply, explaining the above, but I fear it will be another two months before I see the refund. Is there any chance you can talk to them and finally put an end to this saga? Thanks in advance! :)

If you don't receive a reply tomorrow, let me know.

Had 4 separate units leak, three 1.1C / one 1.1D

Moved back to corsair for my CPU and it is spot on, ocuk nzxt kraken bundle for GPU also spot on.

You would have thought the leak would have stopped any fire, perhaps it's a safety feature.

Yes plenty of these leak, mine included, just lack of Quality Control.

Yep, for me lack of decent quality control is my only complaint about EK products.

I've had a GPU block leak because of an incorrectly fitted 'o'ring and leaking 45 and 90 degree fittings that leaked too I suspect due to the 'o'ring.

I had the Predator 280, and received 3 defective units (1.0C) in a row.
In the end i gave up. It was a shame because its performance/noise is outstanding.

EK AIOs are plagued with leakage problems. In r/waterblocks everyday comes someone with a defective Predator. EK should make a recall, at least of the 1.0C revision.

They are going to launch a new line-up for 2017 so I'm going to wait and see.

Sorry for my own delayed reply. I've been sick for the last week or so and only get back to normal now.

Give me your ticket or RMA number and I will try to find what's going on.

No worries. I still get about one reply a week from the RMA department, so the matter is not completely stalled (I always focus on the positives... :P). Last Wednesday, I finally convinced them about the correct amount that should be refunded, so I guess only the actual payment remains.

Regardless, any help would be appreciated. The RMA number is 160056870/1. Thanks!

I will check. Thanks!

I finally received the compensation today. As a "thank you", it's actually £16 less than what was agreed... Their loss, as far as I'm concerned. At least I won't have to refresh the slowest RMA website in the world daily any more.

Funnily enough, I noticed today that the power LED on the predator has started working again. It's the same deep, ominous red from before...
