M4/M25 During Rush Hour

The m25 at that point can be utterky horrible during busy times. Realy. Add at least an hour to be safe if arrival time is important.

I used to have to travel round that bit to get to Leatherhead every now and again. I suggest googling Dante's seventh circle of hell if you want to get an idea of what its like at times.

Leave lots and lots of time and bring a good book in case it is one of the few days in the year when its okay and you get through fine

M4 is rubbish from Reading to the M25 on any given day of the week. Best avoid if you can. Also forget about cutting through from the M4 to the M3 via J10 of the M4 through Bracknell.

Waze app also allows you to set a destination time and it will monitor the route and let you know when you need to leave.

I presume a train isn't an option?

Anything involving a London at rush hour is best done on a train. It may be packed but at least it'll be approximately on time!

When I used to have to negotiate the M25/M4, whatever the GPS would say I would double it.

I am a stickler for punctuality, and use the same rod I manage my team with to manage myself.

I would sooner get there early than race around, stressed if I was going to get there on time.

Trip done surprisingly pain free.

Left home at 0620 hrs and got there for 0945 hrs, traffic on M4 was worse than M25 but flowing all the way.

Left TW at 1245 hrs and got home at 1500 hrs. Hopefully I won't have to go back there again.

Also forget about cutting through from the M4 to the M3 via J10 of the M4 through Bracknell.
A329(M) -> M3 -> M25.
I was just about to advise this very thing.

I used to scoff at the Mrs for insisting on this route, yet she has consistently proven it to be the faster option, going both ways at various times including rush hour, with her in a car and me on the bike.
It was very rare for me to beat her going direct M25/M4.

Leave at 6am. I travel along the M20, M25 and M23 frequently and it is usually busy, if there is an accident, even if it is on the hard shoulder add 1-2 hours on to your journey.

This. So many people adjust fro traffic but then forget that there might be an accident, fog, bad weather, puncture etc.

I would add another hour, maybe two if its a crucial appointment.

I've got to go to Tunbridge Wells tomorrow morning and have to be there for 1015 hrs. Google maps is quoting a journey time of 2 hrs 15 mins (as of now) but I know there'll be congestion for rush hour and I'll be going along the M4 and then round the M25. I'm thinking of setting off at 0630 hrs and hoping this will give me enough time to get there. Is this a good time to set off or am I cutting it fine? I know I can't predict accidents etc but hopefully 3 1/2 hrs should suffice!

How did you get on, Traffic and with consultant?
Andi.

I do this route every morning but the opposite way (M25 > M4), and the M4 is always crawling for a few miles up until the M25. M25 clockwise is generally ok in the mornings from the M4 onwards, it's anti-clockwise (the way I go) that's rubbish - and that's at 6am!
