HI

I have an asus gtx 1060 strix and yesterday i noticed that the clock speed was stuck at 570mhz under load and idleing, i have reinstalled the latest driver 4 times, i then installed the latest driver on the asus website and it started working normaly but when i tried to play a game and it said i need to update to the latest driver to play the game. i took it off the overclocking setting in gpu tweek 2 and even brought it down to 90% but no change, i have also uninstalled the programs i have installed in the last couple of days and unistalled the gpu tweak 2 program, again with no change. i did notice when monitoring the clock speed on gpu-z the default clock speed was showing as 570mhz, is it possible to change this?

does anyone have any idea of what could be the problem?

Ignoring what GPU-Z says, how is your game performance? Does it match up with reviews, youtube, etc?

The core running at 570MHz on a 1060 would result in drastically reduced performance...

it said i need to update to the latest driver to play the game.

Which application notified you of this?

Install the latest driver from nvidia.com.

Yes the performance is not good that is what made me notice, i was getting sub 50fps when i usually get 75+fps

It notified me when i tried to play bf1 so i guess origin. But that was only the driver from asus. The driver from nvideas website (which i did download and reinstall 4 times) alows me to play the game but the clock speed is stuck.

did it, but it hasnt changed still stuck at 570mhz.

i got a responce back from Asus and they told me to contact the distributor to get it repaired or replaced, they did not give any guidance on a possible fix.

asus are generally considered useless. oyu never contact them as they will just say "you bought it somewhere else go away".

but OCUK have some sort of deal with them that makes them good for ocuk customers but you have to go through ocuk.

I got another responce back from asus, and they said to to do a cmos reset. Can someone tell me what changes this will make to my pc?

You will lose all the settings in your BIOS but these days you can just back them up and restore later. No big deal, really. They probably want to check it works without any crazy settings, overclocks, etc.

Ok so i went through process to do the cmos reset as per the manual. It didnt change any of the settings in the bios, my cpu overclock and a few other setting were still there.

When back in the operating system i checked gpu-z and it was stuck at 1507mhz, restarted and it went back down to 570mhz again so i unistalled gpu-z as i thought it might have a problem and i also unistalled the asus ai software for the motherboard as that had some setting for the gpu. then reinstalled gpu-z and restarted, and it went back up to 1507mhz but was stuck there not going up or down.

I then istalled msi afterburner and it shows the clock speed working as normal and would overclock to 2075mhz fine, i am getting good performace again and to top it off i just looked at gpu-z and it is now working as normal.

So im not sure what happend and what fixed it but im very happy it is working.:D

I will give it a good test to see if it goes wrong again.

Im prity sure there was a problem with it as my fps in bf1 has almost doubled, I didnt use ingame display just checked the graphs on gpu-z and originally asus gpu tweak 2 untill i uninstalled it, and both displayed the same, but cant say for sure.
