I have very little knowledge on hi fi systems, and want to sort something for my dad. He's hard of hearing and his new TV isn't great in the sound department.
Question is, how much to spend and what do we get for the money.
Would there be any benefit from buying an expensive sound bar with 2-3 HDMI in with ARC to connect to the TV compared to buying a cheaper sound bar with optical in (so connecting sources to the TV via HDMI) then into the sound bar with an optical cable?
I just can't figure out the benefit of the more expensive ones (connection wise). All that will be connected via HDMI will be 1 X Sky box and 1 X Blu-ray player.
He doesn't care for 7.1 surround, just wants something with decent volume for voice mainly so he can hear things like football commentary (Sky & BT Sport) and normal stereo broadcasts, such as the news etc. He doesn't need extras such as airplay or android cast, or internet radio etc.
I think separate receiver/speakers are out, unless they offer something a sound bar can't and the sound bar is preferable for the smaller size/less clutter aspect.
Can anyone shed some light? Many thanks.
