Hey,

Anyone got a Mercedes here with the build in Sat Nav?

My old man recently bought a 2005 E320 CDI Sport.

Sat Nav appears to work fine,As you can select local restaurants or shops etc and it will guide you there,However..if you try to put in a post code it will NOT allow you to put in numbers,They're all grayed out..but you can put in letters for some odd reason,But its rendered useless without the ability to put in Numbers.

Any suggestions?

Is it not like you have to start putting in the postcode letters before the numbers come available since all postcodes start with letters?

Ah, I thought it would have been similar to my old Mazda which was like that. Would only let you put in numbers or letters which were actually possible to be in a postcode. For example numbers weren't possible from the start.

Strange one. Is the country set correctly?

Have you tried any other postcodes other than DY to see if the numbers become available?

Been a while since I used one, but I think you select letters, then select OK and it brings up a list or allows you to then select numbers.

Like I say it has been a while and I may be confusing it with the later models.

Just tried what you said Dr Who but no change,So wierd.

Im wondering if the disk is missing from the car or something,Where even is the disk?

Doesn't the Sat nav store the data in ram/rom and not have to access a disk all the time?

If it's an NTG1 system then the map DVD is in the drive in the boot.

Ive had a couple of cars with this same system, and i never had this issue.

I know this doesn't help you as such, but that is certainly not right.

Right sorry to bump this but we still have not got around to sorting the issue.

I have made a video of exactly what we see,as you can see in the video the numbers are completely greyed out,and it seems to be stuck on kettlebe?

The "live" map works fine its showing and following exactly where we are,But we just cannot type in places for it to take us too,ive cleaned the disk and everything.

Have you tried completely resetting the system?

Ab Kettleby will be the first town alphabetically, as will the AB10 1xx postcode it shows. If you try to input letters when it shows that postcode, does it just add them to the end or does it overwrite what's there?

My old mans C180 Kompressor had similar issues (whilst I never got round to looking at it, he said he couldn’t enter postcodes) by the time I got round to taking a look he announced that he’d recently had the battery replaced and it came back working!

Maybe it just needs some kind of hard reset?

The video wasn't all that helpful. The numbers were greyed out in your video because "AB10 1" was already typed in somehow and the system wanted the last two letters.

What happens if you clear the route and just try and type in a postcode from scratch?

From the video i am really struggling to see what the issue is, as you do not appear to try and enter a destination? I had that very nav system for years and yours looks normal?
