So last night I discovered one of the fans on my GPU has stopped working.

I've tried reseating the card, checked the leads, but no joy!

Its been a while since Ive looked at cards....So what should I consider to replace it??

I only play at 1080, dont plan to upgrade monitor, etc and really just want something that will play everything well.

A like the idea of a Nvidia 1070...but still a little pricey for me.

help...

I've just upgraded from crossfire 280x's, which is basically the same card as yours, to a GTX1080. But I spent quite some time looking at what upgrades would benefit me. For you, even a 1060 would be a fairly hefty upgrade, and will do well at 1080.

I almost bought a 1080 2 weeks ago, done so much research and lurking in these forums with many similar threads, because I'm still on 1080p 144Hz, I did not want to lose that much cash, so looked at the benchmarks for the games I play, Witcher 3, Doom and my main game TW Warhammer and decided Nitro + OC 480 8GB for 249.

Delighted with TW fps on ultra is an easy 80-90FPS, so just think about what you play or might play.

Other than that maybe wait for 1080TI and Vega, I couldn't since I was on a R9 270X and it just was not cutting it.

1060 is also good so depends if red or green matters to you :)

I think pricing will be heading south in about 1 month as the new 490 from amd looks to be sensational - probably similar to a 1080 so I think a 1070 could be obtainable for £100 less than the current market value if you hang on a few weeks. You could cable tie an external fan to the card temporarily - we've all been there :)

Another vote for the RX480 8GB of any model but reference. Is fantastic card for 1080p

I upgraded my7970 lightning to a Gtx 1080 zotac amp extreme and wow what an upgrage.

games maxed out on a 3440x1440 monitor.

well worth the upgrage and it should be good for a few years.

go for it,

lol, what? did you read the OP? If he thinks the 1070 is too pricey, what makes you think he will go for the more expensive 1080???
