Seems that one of my kids graphics card has died. The card was an ATI Radeon HD7950 (ignore the heading!)

TBH he only plays Roblox and Minecraft, was never exactly taxing the system, but he's only 10.. I'm sure over the next couple of yrs, he'll move onto more gpu demanding games.

CPU is an i7 2600k

Mobo is an old Asus P8 Z77 LX

8GB ram.

So just looking for a card that was the equiv by today's standards to the HD7950 that just died.

i've just got him working thru the cpu's gpu.. And even that has poor frame rates on the basic games he plays.

Again, not looking for high end.. But something equiv to the HD7950.. His brothers PC, that sits beside it, has exactly the same specs as above with a HD7950, and i don't want them arguing the day they decide to play COD joint ops or whatever and one machine has the advantage.

maybe it was a 7950... i lose track after all these yrs.

ok so how does a 7950 vs a 460 go these days ? again this isn't an upgrade, but more of a match. if its better, then maybe i'll give the 460 to his slightly older brother who does play steam games, and give the other 7950 to his younger bro, to replace the one that's just died.

Yup. As you have the post count for the members market, open a thread in the wanted section for HD7950/7970/r9 380 or Nv670/680/960

edit: AH your in the US, MM not so useful then!

Look at second hand 7950/70 seem them for £50/60

Thing about used, is that you just don't know what the prev owner has done to it. So prefer to buy new and get a warranty.

What is today's new equiv to what is a 4yr old card now the HD7950.

New and v close to hd7950:
Nvidia gtx1050 and 1050ti,

(if still available new - Nvidia gtx960 or AMD R9 380/R9 380X)

Otherwise, AMD side its a choice between RX460 and RX470 which are either a decent chunk slower (~25%) and faster (~30%), respectively.

Thanks i picked up a new 1050ti for $125 (after rebates) new.

could have grabbed a used 7950 off fleabay for prob $80ish, but like the fact that the 1050ti will probably save me money in the long run, given the power efficiency of it !
