Yes - I'm back asking for help.....

But this tiem I actually have a list of cars!!!

So I still have the meriva - but I know have a new job and I am doing abit more driving + I have some funds saved up to buy the new car with :)

I like the boxy shape etc of this (I know you all hate them etc, but I like it)

So I have narrowed down my choice to these 4 cars that I think fit what I am after

So firstly what am I after

Well I'll mostly be parked on the M60 during the early morning and late evening commute, the odd trips around the NW and some to the south cost etc

Budget - £3,500 - fixed no little bit more or anything. Less is better
Age - Well the newer the better, but nothing set.
Mileage - Sub 100k if poss, but as long as it's been looked after I'm happy.
TDI engine (cause I can't spell deisal)
Road Tax - Ideally less then £200

So the options I like

1 - Mercedes B Class, B200 CDI SE ideally. Found this one I'm going looking at tomorrow

2 - Another Meriva, but abit higher spec. Again found this one that I hope I can see tomorrow

3 - VW Touran Sport. Kinda like these but not 100% on them
Again this one I am hoping to see tomorrow

Ok and the total wildcard, not sure why but it does appeal a little bit

Wildcard - X3.
This one is again one I am looking at tomorrow

Have you actually driven a B Class? I had the misfortune of having one as a courtesy car when I had a C Class and found it the most dreary, unresponsive thing to drive. I was much happier when I was given a (new shape) A class instead. I've not driven either of the others, but I guess they'll be quite different to drive (the B class driving position is quite low-slung).

X3 was a wild card purely cause I saw one and thought it looked quite cool.

Those 3 above are the ones I'm interested in so its thouights on those

How old are you op 70  why the list of high sitting cars that pensioners normally buy because they are easy to climb in and out of with arthritis.
That generation X3 has aged terribly  looks awful and has the potential to be a big money pit.

I presume you have an actual need for a bus?

Because if not then a hatchback/saloon/estate would make a much more sensible choice for a commuting mile eater, i'd take any vag hatchback over those.

From your choices it seems you need a vehicle with decent load space and practicality. In this price bracket I'd be looking at a Volvo V70, Mondeo estate, or Passat estate. Much better cars than any of your choices.

Touran for me out of that list. But they all look terrible to be honest. I got a 2007 Alhambra last year for your budget, and while I'm not suggesting that is what you should go for, I would have thought you would do better than a 2005 car for that money.

Also, if you are sitting in traffic a lot, I'd be looking towards autos too. Much nicer to drive in traffic, with the downside of not being as engaging when having fun. But since you won't be having any of that with these choices, that shouldn't matter.

And yes, unless you need the 7 seats, which I guess you don't with an X3 in the mix, then a larger estate would be the better choice really.
