A French soldier on guard at the Louvre in Paris has opened fire at a suspected attacker, media reports say.

The soldier is reported to have been attacked with a knife and his assailant seriously injured.

The attacker is said to have been trying to enter the museum. A big security operation is under way.

A source quoted by Reuters news agency said the man had tried to get into the museum's underground shop carrying a suitcase.

The interior ministry described the incident as "serious".

Hopefully this is just some random nutter, good to see no one has been hurt!

Citation needed as to how walking into the museum shop with a suitcase turned into a shooting event.

That said, cant blame the armed security of paris from being a bit more trigger happy.

A man shouting "Allahu Akbar" is reported to have tried to attack the soldier with a knife and was seriously injured when the soldier responded.

This will be more ammunition for Le Pen supporters.

I will await further updates and reports before judging. Too many times recently the early reports all say the person was shouting this and then it gets corrected later.

Not really a shooting incident. More like a potential knifing incident prevented by a soldier.

Weird incident. He had two rucksacks and a suitcase which is why he wasnt allowed to enter and stopped by the guard. That's when he drew a machete and went for the guard who then shot him.

No report of explosives found.

Looks like the guy just went nuts when his entry was blocked as he had too much luggage?

I think you're already a bit nuts if you are trying to enter a museum while carrying a machete no?

A French soldier opened fire on a man armed with two knives who was trying to enter the Louvre museum in central Paris, a police source said.

The Louvre attacker wielded a machete and shouted ‘Allahu akhbar’, according to French police.

Another police source said the man had been trying to get into the museum’s underground shop with a suitcase.

The soldier fired five shots and seriously injured the attacker, including in the stomach.

He was carrying two backpacks, but neither had explosives say police.

This will be used by recruiting sergeants to further radicalize right-wing extremists and to demonstrate that Muslims hate the west. After decades of terrorism surely Islam must do more to stop this cycle of violence?

Muslims have had more deaths and casualties (by far) from radicalised Islamic terrorism than anyone else. It is as much a problem to Muslims (if not more) as it is to anyone else.

Believe me the Muslim community is trying.
