Bought our 6 year old Minecraft for the 360 as he's hooked on the pocket edition on his tablet. I bought a 360 when GTA V came out and haven't really played it since. Dusted it down, hooked it all up and downloaded Minecraft for him. He can play offline but when he tries to join an online game server it says 'Multiplayer Not Allowed: failed to join the game as one or more players are not allowed to play'? I've only got a Silver account, do I need a Gold one to play Minecraft online?

Ta.

No monthly payment for Minecraft but you do need a gold sub.

Gold sub is well worth it, online gaming and 'free' games every month. (Free games are only playable whilst you have an active gold sub).

Not trying to high jack the thread but is the PS4 equivalent of gold worth it? I hear the games aren't up to much. And I don't online game on my ps4 just my Xbox one.

The games can be hit and miss. I pay for it because it's there when I need it but yeah thinking about it I don't actually play much online on my PS4 anymore (if at all). I still need it though just in case! And of course I still have access to all the back catalogue of PS+ games that I will never play.

You need Gold for online, not for solo play.

If paying through Xbox console you need a bank card / Paypal. You get a free trial for a new user, can't remember how long, I think sometimes they offer a month, some games come with 14 trial codes (hard copy of games, not figital)

It's £6 per month (sometimes an offer of £1 for a month) £40 per year (obviously cheaper)

If you go to the likes of CDKeys it is cheaper. the price flutuates between £33 and £37 (not as cheap as it used to be for various reasons) if you go yo CDKeys, thr offer 5% discount also if you like their facebook page.

If you take subscribe to Gold you get 4 games a month (Games with Gold) 2 Xbox one and 2 Xbox 360 games.

These games are yours to keep as long as you subscribe. If your subscription lapses , these games will be unplayable until you re-subscribe. So it is worthwhile addingvthem to your Gold account every month (free is free)

Your son will need to friend request / accept friend request from his friends to join games with them.

Sorry for the wall if txt, also for reposting the things others have already mentioned (props to them)

Just thought I'd put everything.

They used to be good, I suspect because they have a larger market share than Microsoft, they don't feel the need, who knows. they do occasionally put decent games on. Mostly indie titles though nowadays

Thanks guys. I'll have a look on CDKeys and see what price it's going for at the moment. Wee fella has been pestering me because he wants to play on the sort of levels in Minecraft that are full of puzzles that his YouTube hero plays, that DanTDM fella. :)
