I was reading about this earlier because i caught a bit of it on Radio 5 but i thought it was a joke, it's not.

This is just as ridiculous as the whole face veil rubbish.

It's a hairstyle, so if you are planning to go to the UAE make sure you have a short back and sides :)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38978373

"Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan is among a group of more than 40 players deemed to have "unethical hair" under United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAEFA) guidelines.

The 31-year-old Ghanaian is on loan at Dubai-based Arabian Gulf League side Al Ahli from Shanghai SIPG."

"According to Middle Eastern football website Ahdaaf, Al Wahda's Suhail Al-Mansoori (pictured below) was told to cut his hair while UAE international and 2016 Asian footballer of the year Omar Abdulrahman, who sports a similar style and also plays in the Arabian Gulf League, was let off."

Why does it seem like a double standard as in the bold part also?

Thoughts?

Corrupt Football full of hypocrisy shocker...................................................

As to unethical hair, their country, their FA, their rules. If you don't want to have "ethical" hair don't sell your soul for a wad of cash to play in a tinpot sporting back water.

Unethical hair. I like that. Let's get all the sodding hippies to cut their hair. We can also get rid of dreadlocks as well.

Short back and sides or a shaved head is the only way to go.

pretty much this. their country, their rules - don't like their rules? simply don't ******* go there then.

Yeah but they don't seem to apply it to their own UAE Asian footballer of the year as the bold part of my OP, so if you are a citizen of the UAE then it is ok to have unethical hair, but if you're an outsider, well get it cut it seems.

from reading the story it seems it is down to individual referees to 'police' this - some are obviously more lenient (corrupt) than others

I know, it is just the fact that it's laws\guidelines\whatever, it's crazy, it is the same in Saudi Arabia.

I'm pretty sure that is one of the least crazy laws they have :p
stoning rape victims seems a tad crazier!

but I know what you mean, bizarre law bizarrely enforced.

Is it actually law though?

"40 players deemed to have "unethical hair" under United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAEFA) guidelines."

"FA guidelines" are Laws of the land?

Also some people in UK don't want kids having "footballer haircuts" either:

I have edited my posts incase you try to make some long winded argument to eventually get the thread shut down.

And woo, a daily mail link

not exactly shocking that in a country where religion still has such an influence things like this would occur

go back a few decades and I'd not be surprised if British players has the same issue

UAE is a backwards place and this stuff shouldn't surprise us

Ok but this isn't something to do with Islam, many people don't want children having footballer's haircuts, even BRITISH people! I don't see how simply stating some facts which promote rationalism is an act "to get the thread shut down". It honestly isn't. I couldn't care less about Islam, in fact I've probably said more bad things about Islam than a lot of people on here.

"Some match officials in the United Arab Emirates enforce the rules because they are concerned about children copying the styles."

Yeah some people in the UK don't want their kids having footballer haircuts either. It's not just Saudi Arabia or UAE.

Really?

"50 Saudi men detained over 'un-Islamic' haircuts and necklaces"

Yes. As I said many people don't want people having footballers haircuts, it's not something limited to muslims, the fact that it's a Muslim country means it's guidelines will always be attributed to Islam, everything will be done in the name of Islam. Someone in the UK who hates footballer's haircuts will not use Islam to ban it. But that doesn't mean it's ACTUALLY written in Islam that people can't have long hair.

The writer of that article is "Areeb Ullah" Also a Muslim, referring to them as "morality police".

And also, the people with these haircuts are also Muslim, so no it's not really to do with Islam. No one would actually risk going to hell because of some silly haircut.
