My Mk4 2.5T (2007) Mondeo is due a 10yr service which includes Minor and Timing Chain. It's booked in for Tuesday and has covered 55k miles.

I'm trying to avoid driving as I don't want anything to go wrong, like a belt snap, but I want to get out this weekend.

Do you think I'm worrying unnecessarily?

I'm not saying it would be sensible but you could probably quite happily do 15 or 20 years on the original bits. There's a fair margin built into these things.

Well that makes me feel better, thanks gents. It's been perfect considering I've been Home > Northumberland (325miles) and then Northumberland > Scotland (130) and back again.

Out of interest, and if you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for the 10yr service? Only reason I ask is that mines due next year and just after an idea of cost (2008 with 45k miles).

Also, are you having all the belts, tensioner's and water pump changed?

WP no and i was quoted £350 for the belt kit and fitting but the minor service brings it to £475.

My Focus ST "same engine as your Mondeo" was 10 years old and had about 75k on when i got mine done. It cost me £385 for the cambelt, waterpump and aux belt all changed. Its reccomended to get the waterpump changed at the same time is it not?

Is yours the 2.5T also? Have you had the cylinder liners done?

I'm not sure if its included but all good if they are. Will check

Yarp :) 2008 2.5T Tit-X Estate in Panther Black, one of about 1,500 or so in the Country I believe.

Nope, not had the liners done. But keep contemplating put a Bluefin map on it though.

I keep doing the same. It would remove the flat spot @ 1500rpm. Sounds like a beaut :) If I was to get the remap I would get a new intercooler first (something else I keep coming back too) as the stock one isn't really up to the job if adding more power.

Cam belt (not chain) is 10 year/125k miles. At 55k or so miles, I wouldn't be too paranoid about anything breaking :)
The auxiliary belts are also a 10 year service item, are you getting them done too?

lol - thanks! I take it they account for these eventualities so there's room for extra mileage.

Components wont magically break after a given date! :p
You're doing the right thing though and getting the belt changed at the recommended interval even when you're only done fraction of the mileage. You need to consider general belt wear from being warmed up and cooled down over the years and possible contamination (if any)

Example: changed the belt on my Audi few weeks back as its 5 year or 60k interval was up. The belt had only done 15k but when it was removed showed signs of cracking so Im glad I changed it.

Also, always use genuine parts when changing something like a timing belt!!!

Yeah, I'm getting the recommended parts fitted. I'm not sure what's included with the minor but I will note the above and check when I drop it off.

Service and Timing Belt completed but the Water Pump and Aux belt were not done - I didn't have the cash for these 2. Unfortunately they found my alternator tensioner had snapped so that was replaced - which could explain the long standing whine I've been hearing and the lack of fully charged battery. All good though, glad to have it back :)
