2 smaller 1080p monitors or a bigger 1440p one?

Cost wise the first option makes more sense and probably offers more flexibility as you can have one monitor in landscape and the other in portrait for example. I don't game on that PC so is there anything else i should consider before deciding?
 
More real estate is always better IMO. Gaming is the exception since dual-monitor gaming is pretty crap and triple-monitor gaming is very expensive. I have 1x 1440p for gaming and 1x 1080p next to it for extra space when working.
 
1440P for me everyday.

It's almost double the pixels of a 1080P monitor. Look at the Dell U2515H for a good value panel with excellent warranty.
 
The thing is unless you have supervision or a +32" 1440p monitor you wont be able to use that real estate as you will have to scale up in order to read text/numbers. Different story with games or photo editing
 
That's not true, 27" 16:9 is about perfect for 1440p. being just over the 96dpi standard for windows (works out about 109dpi i think, so about around 10% smaller/sharper than intended)

If you were talking about 4k then id agree, 32"+.

I use 25" 1440p without scaling, perfectly fine at normal desk viewing distance, nothing special about my vision.
 
I find my 1440p 27" monitor to have pretty small fonts, but I do have it at the back of my desk. It might just be that I've only used 24" 1080p monitors for many years now so I'm not as used to it. On some websites I use 110% zoom, on others 100% zoom is fine. I also use MacType to get nicer font rendering across Windows applications (probably does nothing in games).
 
My seating/monitor location results in ~70cm distance between eye and screen, I'm short sighted and wear glasses so can't say I have 20/20 natural vision :eek: .

27" @ 1440P to me is same as 24" @ 1080P, the DPI difference is not big enough IMO, so all it looks like is 1080P but on bigger screen if you get what I mean. 25" @ 1440P is stunning for image quality :D , but I would say for lengthy periods of use I found reading text at 100% GUI scaling a bit uncomfortable :( . All the screens I used with 100% GUI scaling as main use is gaming and secondary is light web/office apps use.

I believe from you usage purpose OP you'd want dual screen. I would also think you will benefit from having 1440P screen. So would suggest waiting/saving a bit more so you could go at least 1x 1440P & 1x 1080P. Ideally I'd think biggest plus will be 2x 1440P. When I went 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 I really didn't feel I gained much on OS desktop, going 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 it was a lot more useable OS desktop space ;) .
