Audi R8 V10 Plus - Ownership Experience Thread

So it seems the carbon blade is a replace as it can't be brought back to a high standard with polishing. The cost would make your nuts drop (over 3K) so probably going down the insurance route with this bit.

The pain :(

Ouch!!

How did it get damaged?

Have you tried contacting a carbon fibre fabricator to see if they can fill the scratch with resin and then re-polish to a smooth glossy finish? Granted it's not going to be quite "perfect" but if it's almost indiscernible to the naked eye, it might be good enough, especially if you are planning to move it on this year?

Possible that even a decent auto-detailer might be able to do the above.

I was running some errands before Christmas. I parked in a few different places and noticed it when I got home (passenger side). It was not there in the morning when I left the house. Really annoying.

I am going to consider my options. I have told them to quote me for it, I have my insurer lined up if I need them but I also have some connections to try. I have a friend in Ireland who has just sent me some pics of some carbon work he has had done that make my damage look microscopic and the finished article after work is superb. The bodyshop is superb but Carbon is a very specific skill so will go to a carbon god and have a look. However I won't be letting someone 'have a go' it will need to come with guarantees or else I will simply replace it.

Thanks chaps. Here was me thinking 'well at least it wasn't the door or wing' when in reality that would have been far better. Oh well, all fixable, that is the important bit.

Audi also provided the wrong replacement front centre grill it would seem...

However, good customer service comes when something goes wrong and they jumped on the case this morning, spoke directly to my body centre without prompting and have arranged replacement and delivery at their cost. Will delay the car being finished but I am in no rush to get it back.

Ha I go there couple of times a month but never seen it. :(
I try and avoid Tamworth, but I popped into Tamworth Audi to look at the green R8 they have in. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would in the flesh and the spec was wrong for my liking so I left.

Any chance of re-upping some of the 'Ring and NC500 pics? All the originals have been removed and I didn't see this thread first time around. :(

I will do at some point, I killed my Photobucket account where I had most of my online stuff served, it was just unbearable to use with all those bloody adverts.

Thought this would be 'housey' spec.

If they fall below 100K this year for a Plus then it's value that is hard to ignore. Issue for me is I would never spec adaptive steering, it's awful but most people tend to be spec box tickers and don't appreciate the difference.

Is it not just a software thing that can be turned off via a dealer?

Housey, there was a company mentioned on PH recently who can do amazing carbon fibre repairs, including to some very high end bits of kits. I can't recall their name but it may be worth getting in touch with them as from what I saw they can almost certain do a perfect repair job on that kind of thing.

EDIT: found them http://carbonfibrerepair.com/
