Audi R8 V10 Plus - Ownership Experience Thread

Housey, there was a company mentioned on PH recently who can do amazing carbon fibre repairs, including to some very high end bits of kits. I can't recall their name but it may be worth getting in touch with them as from what I saw they can almost certain do a perfect repair job on that kind of thing.

EDIT: found them http://carbonfibrerepair.com/
Thanks!

I have a few options but just finding the time is the issue right now.

Well I have had the car for around 22 months now and thought I should add an update for anyone interested. In that time I have added 21,000 miles to the car, which though far from big mileage is a lot for such a car and still leaves most of my friends who run sports/super/hyper cars scratching their heads as if I have a screw loose. I have always been the same, I drive my cars and enjoy them and will never understand owning to simply own rather than owning to use. It also helps that I don't live in That London, so getting in and fining great roads takes minutes, not an hour.

The car is currently in my Audi dealer of (current) choice having an annual service. It wasn't due for another 5,000 miles, but my preference is to have the car serviced every 12 months so to the day that is what I did. I also asked them to change the brake fluid again as a preference rather than a necessity. Other small things were rear spoiler was not seating as it should (fixed), a hose had come down from behind the front grill/number plate due to not being fitted correctly when I had the grills replaced (fixed) and I also asked them to check out a whine I was getting from the car and the geo.

Well I got a call this week telling me in simple terms "it needs a new gearbox", great....

Luckily I have an Audi Extended Warranty and after a couple of hours with the dealer, warranty company and Audi UK debating who would do what I got a call that my cost would be £100, the excess on my policy. Audi UK would pay for a brand new gearbox and the warranty company would pick up the cost of the labour. This is good news as the cost of the box and labour is £20,000! They do not rebuild, it is a brand new transmission from the factory on a 21 day back order so will collect the car and then arrange a new date for it to be fixed. Frankly it is ludicrous that a gearbox I can not really influence should fail in 24.5K miles and from reading it seems (summation) that there is an issue with the early 2013 DCT boxes that has now been fixed, which might be why Audi stepped in to pay, but as I say that is pure speculation on my behalf. Frankly I am just pleased they are putting it right at their cost and this is what the question "should I renew the warranty this year" on cars like this is ALWAYS yes.

I have had issues with this car, it has been far more temperamental than I thought it would be. Most of the issues are small niggles, they stop me doing nothing but annoy me. Suspension knocking, transmission whine, diff noises (a trait of the Quattro and exactly the same in my RS4) and things like noises from the wheels needing a special Audi £150+ grease again not impacting all cars and not paid for by me, Having said all that for the money it is a fantastic car that nothing in the same price range can compete with. I know how quick it is, I know how well it performs and I know that it's performance is 100% super car even if to many because of the badge it isn't.

I have driven the new model 3 times now, I still think mine is better, more alive, more visceral and not that much slower in real world if at call. New one is superb, but is lacking something and the assisted steering is garbage in my humble option. The engine is one of the worlds great road car engines and nothing in any McLaren or Porsche (outside a CGT) can compete for 'event'. Will see how this year goes and if I keep it, swap it for something different or just sell it. If anyone has 75K in their pocket to spend on something special go find a late Mk1 Plus and have a go.

The service + brake fluid?

£584

Cheap that for such a car I feel.

Funny really i just let me 14 reg plus go after only a short few months. Sad yes as i couldn't get comfortable in it. I am genuinely gutted and question my reason for sale all week.

That said i see the above and think jeez. 20k, extended warranty is £213 a month on mine, thats some fee but then so is 20k for a gearbox, scary stuff

Did you have buckets?

Just read on another forum about a mate with an R8 V8 with a manual box and a £23K bill!!!

A 40K 100K car still comes with the 100K bills sadly.....or in todays and the V10 plus money a £150K car.

yep buckets, I am not sure why but i could hardly go 5 miles in it before the back played up. There was zero adjustment

I find them superb, I did over 100K in the same seats in my RS4 and it sounds like you might not have had the same buckets then.

You can move up and down
You can move back and forward
You can move the rear angle back and forward
You can puff up or deflate the size bolsters on bottom and sides
You can make 3 different lumber adjustments

Were yours standard ones, seems odd as most people (for a bucket) I know talk about them positively?

Having said that, I more than most get how a seat is such a personal thing.

You're doing a little more mileage in it than I am. Also just past the 24 month mark. But yes, people say the same to me....

Same seats, exactly the same as my rs4, i dont know why they just couldnt adjust to give me comfort. That said i am in what is nearly a super car and as such you do expect it not to be perfect.

Nothing worse than a car you can't get comfy in. I have had that before too, people telling me how great a seat is and then I sit in it and find the exact opposite. Read any thread where that crappy Ikea seat everyone raves about is discussed. :D

The IKEA Markus is a great chair :p

I get the same shocked looks when people ask how often I bring the SVR out, eh, it is my daily. :D

It's funny I had a similar discussion in the porsche dealership a couple of weeks back. They considered 3 year old cars with more than 20k miles to be high. They seemed confused when I pointed out that I'd easily be driving mine every day!
Why would you not want to drive a fantastic car at every opportunity?!

People like you and Gibbo buying these porn on wheels cars and actually using them is what makes motors so good. Warranty clearly a no-brainer and kudos to Audi sticking to it with what seems like little fuss or argument.

How long will you lose the car for with the new gearbox being fitted ? On the plus side, surely VAG will be loaning you a really nice Polo while it happens :p

My brother in law had the same issue in his Elise, absolutely adored it except the seat gave him shooting pains up his leg and back after a short time driving.

Backs and seats, such a personal thing that so many on this site simply don't get.

I know his pain :D
