Hi,

I am not asking for medical advice. It's chickenpox, we have a gel and lotion etc for it.

Just after a little advice for anyone that's had a 2 year old with it and how they stopped them scratching.

my 5 year old daughter has just had it and it was ok, she didn't itch them and just got on with it. Still scabby now but they are coming off. Little lad had 3 at the same time then disappeared without issue, he's now covered in them. He understands most things but his language skills aren't up to his sisters at the same age, she would have understood, not sure he will. Gloves on his hands won't work because he can get them off easily enough.

Any tips?

yeah we have the lotion as well, he loves baths until you have to lie him down.. :D
let him stay seated, then just keep sponging warm water over his shoulders and head. my younger brother many years ago was the same - loved the bath but hated being made to lay down in it for some reason. that's what my mother did for him when he had the 'pox

This is how I normally wash his hair too, I'll give it a try later, see if it helps :)

Urrrrgh

I'm still covered in scars from when I had it over xmas when I was 14!

I've none but my wife has one on her forehead. My daughter accidentally pulled a scab off on her nose which looks like it may scar but she'a rather large scab on her forehead in the same place as my wife's scar. That looks like it'll scar.

My two young daughters have had it, piriton syrup helped, it is quite sweet and minty so neither had any issues with the taste

Fill a sock with porridge oats and put it in a hot bath to soak. When cool enough put kid in bath and use the sock to gently bathe.

Stops itching straight away

Vira Soothe worked wonders on my 6 and 2 year olds when the had they pox last summer
This worked really well for us, unfortunately our youngest son got it as an infant and was absolutely covered, it was heartbreaking and he still has the odd small scar now. Vira soothe really helped him though.

Well, we've got the piriton syrup but he says yuck each time he has it and last night he had a lovely soak in a porridge bath which did seems to help, plus, he loves baths so he was entertained for 30 mins. Woke himself up at 1:30am and took me 30 mins to settle him again. Full of it this morning, has a cold as well. Sucks having to come to work knowing he's bad.

Wife was given some soothing gel to try as well so is going to try that and if it doesn't help then i'll get some aveeno cream.

He's got some really nasty blisters around his genitals which is making it difficult with nappy changes so lots more baths for him.

Thanks for all the tips everyone :)

My boy had it last month and the other half just used calamine, but kept on saying to him you dont want them to bleed as will not go away.

Also this could be the time to try get him in pants as nappies will make it itch more down there.

I would really recommend coconut oil (as in the stuff in the jar, not the liquid). Really does help clear up scars. Works for lots of other things as well.

I believe at 2 years old they can take Piriton (anti-allergy medicine) but of course you'll need to check that out for yourself but it really helped my daughter with itching. She had some nasty ones, particularly on her hands weirdly enough (they rubbed a lot which caused her a lot of pain).
