Notice of Enforcement

Opened my post this evening and one of the letters was a Notice of Enforcement from Ross & Roberts who are acting on behalf of Havant Borough Council.

According to them I owe £581.12 due to unpaid council tax.

Now, I pay it every month and double checked that it was all coming out OK and that's when I read the enforcement details and saw it was for a completely different address to mine!

I've tried to call Havant Council but their offices are closed and I can't get a hold of anyone at Ross & Roberts!

Why have I been sent a Notice of Enforcement for an address that is not mine?! Surely the Notice of Enforcement should be sent to the address where it's not being paid?!

Anyone else had this problem?

Time to sue for distress!

Woo, free money!

I've sent Havant Council an email advising them to contact me immediately on their return Monday morning.

I need to speak to them anyway as I'm leaving my current house next weekend so two birds, one stone :D

The postie has ballsed up.

i.e. I opened a strongly-worded letter from TV licensing not long ago, then it turned out that the address where the envelope's window was, was in fact a different house number on my street.

Does it have your name on it?

this^^^ is rather relevant

also - does it have your address on it?

It really isn't clear from your OP - I mean is it a letter with your address printed on it but the contents refer to another address they believe you previously lived at or is it simply something that has been posted to the wrong address?

I bet two people with the same name, Moved around the same time and one has gone off radar. Debt collectors have done a search and pulled up your details.

Not if he can prove their incompetence. Which shouldn't be too hard.

OP: Keep trying to call them, don't wait for them to get back to you.

The bad thing is you'll probably end up having to pay it.

It will be up to the council to prove he lived there. As soon as he shows the judge evidence he was living somewhere else and he doesn't own the property, they will run out with their tail between their legs.

I'd be half tempted to even let it get to court.

Well I called them up and they have no idea why my details are on there but at the moment I am still liable for the payments to this address! I have informed them I will be making no payments on behalf of this property.

They were absolutely useless and told me that my details had been added to this other address for some time to which I advised that I've only been living in Havant since September last year so it can't go back any further than that to which she said it does?!

I've told them to investigate this and get back to me as soon as possible. Should I contact them every other day to chase them or wait a week or so?

My worry is that Ross & Roberts are going to start coming to my door (though the house will be empty as well leave this Saturday).
