Hi, i usually book my holidays by booking flights and hotels seperate myself, however, i'm looking at an all inclusive holiday now, what's the best way of doing this? Something like booking the package through someone like first choice holidays? Or can i do this myself too?

Thanks

I've only ever booked it all as one through a retailer like Thomson, just booked Mexico for April via Thomson actually - much easier and I prefer to go through a big company for peace of mind etc.

An all inclusive holiday is all food and drink paid for, do you mean a package holiday? If so, what's the point? Why not simply book the flights, hotel and transfers yourself for cheaper? You can still go all inclusive food and drink

Sometimes its cheaper to get a packaged holiday, especially last minute. been n several to Greek islands, carpus, Sardinia etc where the whole holiday with hotel + flight + transfer was 30-50%less than just buying a flight. And by last minute these were typically 4-8 weeks out form departure. Once I even booked a package Holiday to crete pretty much just to sue the flight, stayed in the hotel for 2 nights out of the 7 and then drove on to meet up with friends in a big villa they rented.

Depends what sort of holiday youre after. A trip to Australia for example we used a travel agent to do the searches for us (best holiday ever). Other holidays such as Lanzarotte used expedia for flights and hotel. Dont forget to use tripadvisor to look at reviews and photos. Just because its all inclusive doesnt make it good. I find regardless of the star of all inclusive packages seem great at first but lack quality. It depends where youre going as in some countries alcohol is dirt cheap and in others its extortion (Dubai). I think giving more context to what you want to do will help us.

Were going to Alcudia. I couldnt get it much cheaper going DIY (low priced accommodation) than a AI package holiday with Thomson. Flight times are decent, All your food & drink, Transfers and rep if needed.

Cheers guys

That's exactly what i mean, a holiday where all food and drink is paid for. I always book my 'package' holidays myself booking flight and hotel seperate. I'll probably just go with someone like first choice, i saw a half decent price to a resort in Turkey.

You're brave asking about all inclusive, I remember a thread where somebody asked about it and about 100 posters all said only Chavs do all inclusive :)
For what it's worth we've only ever done package/all inclusive since 1999 because just being able to get a drink at anytime was worth the extra alone. Last year I stood next to a bloke getting drinks for his family and he had to pay 30 Euros, I saw him go to the bar 5 times in that one afternoon. And of course going all inclusive doesn't mean you can't go for meals elsewhere which we do all the time.

Yep, and when we looked at a 7 night holiday we only paid £100 extra for all inclusive.

We usually go out for dinner 2 nights, sometimes 3 if it's a lively area and some lots of nice places to have dinner.

Last year we went to Turkey and it was the best all inclusive we had. The food was exceptional. A massive range. Outside was a big kind of catering area with chefs cooking meat and also doing stirfrys and omelettes to order.

The worst one was Egypt. Hotel was full of Russians and absolutely every one was horrible and rude. The really weird thing too was that it was peak time but the entire pool area was empty. Out of about 200 sun beds there was about 6 in use. Strange.

All inclusive is the way to go if staying at a resort. I'll take the "chav" option everytime when I go to Antigua, Mauritius, Maldives or any of those other "chav" destinations.

Great point on trip advisor, AI means you can be stuck, due to location, with the in house resteraunts. Never had a real issue though in 3, 4 or 5 * places. Maybe just lucky....

I don't see why you'd start your search with a preference for package vs booking separately. Surely just compare both? All inclusive should be available with either.

I have never done all inclusive, and with me saving up to move to New Zealand at the end of this year, i wanted to take my kids on holiday before we move, the thing is, i've done these sun £15 holidays before, and they are a false economy, after you've paid for everything, travel, accomodation, food and activities, you've probably spent close to a grand in 4 nights at Prestatyn Haven :D.
At least, with an all inclusive, it'll be much easier to budget, and i'll get to go to another country i've not been to yet, i fancy Greece (Zante) personally, but i would consider Turkey too.

I quite fancy that one.

OMG Chav City :D

We went to Kusadasi around 3 years ago all inclusive in the Ephesia Resort Hotel and it was a brilliant holiday.
The hotel grounds had 3 separate sunbed areas but we opted for their beach every day which was a 50 metre walk. The last 3 holidays I've been a sunbed whore looking out at the sea but I always make sure I'm under an umbrella (I never sunbathe).

I've just read there was a terror attack in Izmir earlier this year, that's a little too close to Kusadasi for my comfort. Think i'll seek elsewhere. I just don't want to do Spain again.

Also check the local area out before booking.

We had a nightmare about two years ago in Spain as the local town had no English food places at all. Not even a McDonalds. We had to eat Spanish food the whole time.
