Assassination of Kim Jong Nam

You think that Russia... a relatively advanced nuclear repository of knowledge thought that radiation was untraceable?

Come on.

It's quite possible they thought it wouldn't be spotted as such and thus no attempt made to trace it, from memory it was to an extent luck that it was recognised as radiation poisoning as quickly as it was.

My totally plucked out of the air hypothesis is Kim was worried having a sibling outside his control meant that if external parties (mostly Chinese, possible US) thought he was getting totally out of control they'd be able to disappear him and put in his brother. As a living heir of the dynasty it would cause the least upheaval. Now he's gone they can't without tearing the country in 2 (or would that be 3?).

The most likely answer yes, but i have another, what if this was done by another country, so everyone around the world now thinks well NK must have some quantities of the stuff, what if they stick a tub of it on the end of a missile and send it over to SK or Japan, we best go in and relieve them of their Dear Leader, a bit like what Bush and Blair did with Saddam.

Sounds extreme, but think about it.

Has their been any stories\evidence in the past of NK even manufacturing VX or using\having the stuff? Something doesn't smell right.

NK has extensive military chemical, biological and radiological programs (or atleast that is the "official" line).

Come on.

Then why did they try to deny it so strongly?

The fact that evidence was left behind and lead back to them hurt Russia's relations with the UK hugely and the UK isn't just going to forget about it. They wouldn't have left a trail on purpose.

Kim's henchman were desperate to get Nam's body back, because they knew that once it was examined it would point straight back to them and make their situation even worse. Even China seems to get getting sick of them now.

As for motivation, I'm sure there was something a while ago where Un forced the ruling elite to accept that only members of the dynasty were able to lead NK..that would put his half brother on a hit list

Quite obvious the two girls conned into it. And now probably going to get executed :-(
My thoughts exactly. I have a huge amount of sympathy for those girls, and so much contempt for the people who conned them into it, who will probably get away with it.

Yup, i cant help but feel that Nam, who was once accepted as Ils successor before Un was officially named successor, would be a threat regardless of Nams real intentions. He was not only westernised and at the mercy of major powers external to NK, he is known by the NK people and has expressed his dislike for the fairly unpopular current regime. He would have been the perfect candidate to replace Un if US/China or whoever felt that Un was overstepping himself. From Ils point of view, if he takes Nam out of the picture, his power will just fall into the hands of one of the old generals if Il were to be killed then, essentially changing nothing.

The whole "we thought it was for a prank TV show" is either an incredibly believable and plausible backstory contrived with their knowledge, or absolute genius at the hands of whichever secret service agency was behind it. I'm going for the latter given the likelihood of their prosecution/execution.

I'm certainly no military or history expert, but are there any other examples of ordinary people being conned into committing a murder or other serious crime without their knowledge even during the act itself?
