Am expecting a pretty terrible performance from the "home" team- who ever JM puts out

At least it should be a pretty strong selection given how much he likes the competition (crossing fingers for no further injuries) - dont believe there are any cards for either side to account for bans

Very interested to see what side Puel lines up, will he trust Stephens with the occasion or gamble on Cacares fitting in straight away? I'd like to see him try Long and Gabbiadini up front but that would require a change from the typical front three he has played so i'm expecting to see Tadic, Gabbiadini and Redmond.

Should be a good game. Just hope we don't play the first half with the ******* Fellaini.

Expecting a tough game, but we have enough experienced players to get the job done... hopefully.

You should be walking this game by rights, we're either playing a new CB or a youth CB, we still have key injuries in other positions too and nowhere near the squad the depth you do with which to cope with it.

All we can hope for is that Jose feels it's a less important cup and perhaps doesn't go for it all guns blazing with a full strength team.

Nah, Jose would have put out weak teams before now in the comp (excluding the times he plays Fellaini). He wants to win this.

In which case, I see Yoshida / Cacares / Stephens getting torn to ribbons for this one. Whichever two get picked.

Unless we steal an early lead and park the bus, that's the only way I see us nicking this.

Southampton line up as follows;

Forster

Cedric - Yoshida - Stephens - Bertrand

Romeu - Davis - Ward-Prowse

Tadic - Gabbiadini - Redmond

Bench of Hassen, Long, Rodriguez, Cacares, Boufal, Hojbjerg, McQueen.

Our game rests on Yoshida and Stephens keeping their nerve IMO.

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Rojo, Herrera, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Martial, Ibrahimovic.

Weird that Blind isn't playing, he seemed to be first choice lately. No idea why Lingard is starting either.

surely its a 4-2-3-1 so Lingard is the only option if Mkhi is injured (or not able to start at least) - and Mata /Lingard can swap position easily not sure anyone else can swap both no 10 and out wide - obviously mkhi would be best option but unlikely after Wednesday's game

Agree with Blind though, that would be far better option than Rojo

Well I would have thought it more likely he'd start Carrick and push Pogba further up. Lingard has been pretty poor this season after all. Bench is utter crap, Darmian seems to have vanished to the same place we've sent Shaw to.

How injured is Carrick - I know JM said he was ok, but is he?

Always thought Carrick was unlikely to start, and therefore would be 4-2-3-1 rather than 4-3-3

edit hadn't seen the bench but would agree, doesn't look like there is anything there that's promising

First team is strong. I think we will be fine unless we get injuries to Martial, Pogba or Ibra.
