Eubank does not have anywhere near the technique or defence of Calzaghe though. He will get found out against decent opposition.

I'm not saying Eubank is at the level of Calzaghe. It took 30-40 fights to see the best of Joe Calzaghe. What I'm saying is it takes a lot more than just a KO percentage to make an exciting fighter. Sure, if Eubank was thrown in the with best we'll see the cracks in the armour but same would go for any fighter at Eubanks point in his career.

It's not fair to compare any young super middleweight to Calzaghe in the last half of his career. Joe Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Eubank shows glimpse of greatness.

Eubank is 27 years old and 24 fights into his professional career. How many carefully chosen opponents does he get before he fights some top class opposition?

Maybe. When you're in with a big puncher you have to recognise that and feel him out a little. If you think he can drop you or hurt you enough to limit output then you adapt. If you know you have the chin, skill and fitness to deal with it for 36 minutes then look to out point him or take him into deep water and put the pressure on in the last half of the fight to see how that power holds up.

Joe Calzaghe wasn't a huge puncher but he'd beat the crap out of anyone for 12 rounds. Remember the Jeff Lacy fight? The big hitting beast and one punch KO artist.

That's kind of my point. He can't get into the ring with better and bigger hitting fighters and continue to fight as he does. He'll have to change his style because he can't knock them out and he's too easy to hit.

Maybe it's too early to judge him but the only top level fighter he's come up against he's lost to so until we see him get in the ring with an elite fighter again I'll always be sceptical of whether he can adapt.

His timing was off for most the the last fight and he seemed a little tense. You could say thats because of the time out of the ring and it's his first outing at 168.

Eubank was great in spots and everything started to click between the 8th and 10th round, but to challenge the likes of Golovkin or DeGale Eubank would have to be sharper and able to perform like that from round one and go up the gears.

I think another 20 rounds with solid fighters. I'd say at least 2 more fights against opposition that will test him. The problem is who and at what weight.

I'd like to see him become a little more accurate and in a pair of punchers gloves. Maybe a pair of Reyes or Grant.

Wow lots happening.

Porter v Berto

Abraham v Krasniqi (Good fight for Eubank)

Spence v Brook

Smith v Williams

And it looks like the WBC will order Callum Smith v Anthony Dirrell for the super middleweight title.

What sort of fight though? Boxing match, mayweather is a guaranteed win, mma and mcgregor is a guaranteed win, only way to make it fair is a kickboxing match?

It's a shame it's mayweather and not someone with power. I'd like to see someone else take him the distance and give him a slow and painful night and finish him in the last. What a desperate way to get a big pay day.

If it's Queensberry Mayweather will do whatever he wants in that fight. I see 36 minuts of frustration for McGregor and Mayweather doing as little as possible.

I just don't get the interest in the fight.

Conor should be setting up some MMA fights and actually maybe try defending a belt, and Mayweather is retired.

Wouldn't pay a penny to see them fight each other.

Yeah. I can understand why they'd want to fight each other, but not why anyone else wants to watch it and pay for it. Not as a boxing match anyway.

Thoughts on Mayweather vs Mcgregor...
The build up would be better than the actual fight. If it was purely boxing then yes, Mayweather wins hands down, it would be one of his easiest fights. If it anything other than pure boxing, ie. if they were to take even 1 tiny step towards MMA in any way shape or form, then it swings heavily in Mcgregors favour - not that Mayweather would ever consider such an option. It will be all his way or it won't happen, he's not someone renowned for taking risks. Mcgregor on the other hand thrives on challenging himself, putting him in a boxing ring and restricting him by ~90% is a monumental challenge but in his supreme arrogance and confidence I believe that he thinks he can land that 'one big shot'. Mayweather remember isn't a one punch KO artist he would simply pick Mcgregor apart and win comfortably on points, maybe a late stoppage as Mcgregor tires after eats jabs all night. Mcgregor would be looking for that one big shot because he does have one punch KO power, maybe they should use MMA gloves to make it slightly more interesting but I would watch it, I'd be intrigued to see it all play out. It really shouldn't be 100% boxing though.

Mayweather has always picked opponents that suit his hit and move style. He has the power to drop anyone his size, but very rarely puts any mustard on his punches apart from keeping people off him or to make them think twice about pressing for an exchange. Even when Mayweather has really rocked people his first thought is to get out of range and get back behind the jab. Mayweather is a master of condensing 3 minutes of boxing into 30 seconds each round. Unless McGregor is a world class welter, he'll be lucky to to even touch a top level boxer more than a few times per round.

McGregor's only chance is to run over to Mayweather and kick him in the nads. Otherwise he'll be a boxing bag for 12 rounds and come out looking like a complete tit.

It's like putting Usain Bolt in a 5000 metre race with Mo Farah. Usain knows how to run really fast, trains and has been in a lot of race's. So he might win right?

Yeah 23rd of April.

Next month is a great month for boxing. Well sort of, 1 massive fight (josh/klitch) and 2 silly fights but entertaining either way.

Haye to KO Bellow within 3 rounds
Joshua to KO Klitcho within 5
Manny to win easy by decision

Deontay Windmill KO'd another opponent last night. He obviously hits extremely hard but I've never seen a champion that's so uncoordinated when he throws punches, there's literally no plan other than to throw his arms in the general direction of his opponent.

Edit: This expert analysis sums him up for me :D

I'm going for a 2,3,4,5...

Haye to win by KO in 2/3
Joshua to KO Klitchko in 3/4
Manny to KO Khan in 4/5

I'd like nothing more than to see the end of Haye but realistically Bellew is out of his depth in this one. It'd be nice to see Bellew land one on the button just to see what happens but Haye is too big, too strong, too quick for Bellew.

Khan is more a celebrity boxer these days, he can't be taken seriously. It'll be an entertaining fight while it lasts because both guys are quick but Manny still has that power and Khan still has that non-existent defence...
