Noticed something very odd.
(Topic should say 4690k!)

My CPU boosts to 4.7ghz and I can't seem to change it. I've reset the bios to optimised defaults many a time. Uninstalled Gigabyte EasyTune and even tried a manual overclock. Nothing seems to stick.

I had been fiddling with EasyTune a few weeks ago but now if I click any option of EasyTune, for example 'Default' or 'Energy saving' it requests to reboot but nothing seems to have changed!

Any ideas?

4.7ghz ? Is it stable ? Is that not a good thing ? Most people would love that.
Dont use Easytune its rubbish. You could for instance have a version that has a bug like this. You would be better off using the BIOS for O/C.
Reset your CMOS, start from scratch. Replace CMOS battery if settings arent saving shouldnt be too hard to fathom out,

4.7 does seem crazy but HWinfo and cpu-z can't lie right?

I had assumed Easytune was the problem. I think it started when I tried the auto setting where it attempts to overclock itself and then gives you a result.
But now nothing changes anything.

In some Prime95 tests it does reach late 80s and sometimes peeks above 90C but never above 60c when gaming and msi says I'm using 100% cpu.

I've uninstalled Easytune now and I suppose I'll try reseting the CMOS... But if it's stable and safe I suppose I should keep and appreciate it.

It's now back to normal!

So I did a manual overclock, it shows 35 as the CPU HFM and 45 as the CPU Turbo.
However on Cpu-Z and HWinfo it's permenantly on x45, I thought at idle it would sit at 35x?

depends whether you have speedstep or whatever its called disabled in the BIOS. What else do you have disabled on the same screen as the CPU O/C settings ?

I think I solved that, with windows power settings at high performance it always runs at Turbo.

I'm now trying to get a stable overclock, quite surprised how EasyTune managed 4.7 as the system reboots when stress testing at 46x with Vcore at 1.25V . I dunno if there should be any more voltages changed, i've only been altering the core voltage.

What was the voltage when it ran at 4.7 ?

Stupidly never looked. I never stress tested it so maybe it would have failed but the EasyTune app deemed it stable. If I can be bothered i'll reinstall EasyTune, do the auto OC and see if it comes to the same conclusion. If it does i'll see if I can see the voltage.

go in to bios and set all the turbo speed to 47, it will give you options to set the ratio for 1, 2, 3 and 4 cores.
Turn off speeds step.

install CPUz and use the stress test tool to see what the chip turbos to when under load
