The "Stealing by finding" thread reminded me of this thought.
Pre charge bail
See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...campaign-to-close-a-legal-limbo-loophole.html
Now, the problem is that people can end up suffering bail restrictions for months and in some cases years.
It is not uncommon for no charges ever to be made.
(In the Joanna Yates Murder case, the totally innocent Jeffries was kept under bail conditions for two months after Tabak had been charged! Outrageous!
)
Now, the question is...
What happens if the "Suspect" basically says "No, I will not accept pre-charge bail. Charge me or release me"
Now, the Police can hold you for a while pending enquiries, but I am pretty sure there are limits on this that can only be exceeded in really exceptional circumstances.
So what would happen?
