I have a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler on another board.
If I got a bracket for it do you think it would good enough for a 1700x or would it be best to buy a new NH-D15?

Thanks.

Not knowing what the TJmax of Ryzen is makes it hard to say. I know the Ryzen is 94w TDP, but if TJmax is like other AMD at about 60c it will be hard for a cooler that small to keep it cool at full load .. especially if it is spike 10c above average operating temp. That would mean cooler has to keep it below 50c with spices to 60c.

Thank you for your advice, It did a great job at the time but I think your right, time for the NH-D15.

Thanks.

NH-D15 is a nice cooler, but it is not any better than half a dozen others, most a lower prices .. like PH-TC14PE, R1 Ultimate, NH-D14, etc.

I've heard good things about Alpenfohn Olymp, but have not tested it myself.

PH-TC14PE black is £59.99 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-ph-tc14pe-cpu-cooler-black-hs-009-pt.html
Olymp is £54.95 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/alpe...h-performance-cpu-cooler-140mm-hs-054-al.html

Your NH-U12P SE2 may work fine with Ryzen stock. It won't hurt to give it a try. Noctua will give you a free mount upgrade for Ryzen. ;)
