Help choose tyres

As above, neither.

Unless there is some reason why it has to specifically be between those two?

Presumably you have 225/40/18 on the GTD? I'd be going for Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3 (about 90 per corner fitted) on Blackcircles. Spending any less seems to get you a noticeably worse performing tyre for little saving.

Basically down to reviews and within my budget

Barum are £64 fitted and seem to get good reviews
And the avons are £77 fitted and also get good reviews
However I could push a little more on the budget.
I am not looking for ultra sticky tyres, but a good overall tyre that's also good in the wet and doesn't wear too quickly.

So £13 extra a corner over the Avons for the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3s mentioned above, a highly praised tyre that comes out top or nearly top in pretty much all braking tests I've seen?

Bit of a no brainer when its your safety at stake, surely.

These are all around £65 + fitting and they are good tyres. I would have any of these over the ones in the OP:

Falken Ziex ZE914

Kuhmo Ecsta LE Sport KU39

These are £68 + fitting and are apparently excellent tyres:

Vredestein Ultrac Satin

For something appreciably better you are looking at over £80 + fitting:

Continental Sport Contact 5

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

Or if you want to go balls to the wall:

Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Running a MK7 GTD and is asking for opinions on budget brand tyres. Even my couple of grand Saab Aero is still running Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3's on all four corners. I can never understand peoples attitude towards tyres. They are the most important part of the car.

Occupation: Driving Instructor as well. The mind boggles!

They maybe budget brand but the reviews I have seen are favourable, hence why I am asking here to see if the opinions are the same.

Good brand tyres arent just ultra sticky, they're better in the wet (and everywhere else) plus they last longer.

Tyre letter ratings are useless. I ignore them completely personally.

Going from ratings alone suggests that Linlongs are quite good.
