Would there be a performance difference at 1080P / 1440P, a worthy upgrade?

If you have the 780 then moving to a 480 isn't a big enough jump in performance, especially from a Classified 780 which won't be that far off a 970.

Cheers guys, thought I might save a few ££ and pick up the RX 480 that is on offer but I'll hang on for the big boys then. 1080 Ti and VEGA, tbh I'm bound to pick them up at some point anyway xD
Aside from 1-2 games - my 780GHz (overclocked beyond out the box clocks) was mostly performing +/-6% of a 480 (at launch) - though if you have an A1 780 and/or spend a lot of time playing something like The Division you'd likely see a much bigger jump.
Wait for the 580 next month. It will fashion better spinned Polaris 10 core, with higher base clocks and higher overclocks.
Those latest made 480s you see around, eg the XFX GTR are made of the same chip and they can clock 1500+.
Is it really that heavy?

The OP has three choices.
If money is tight and they want an upgrade the 480 will be that. It wont be huge but it will be faster. Plus the 480 has that large 8Gb vram for high resolution textures in games.
A better upgrade, one that will be more 'next gen' would be a 1070.
However we are really only a few months off Vega now. Maybe the OP should wait and see what that brings.
I'm running a 970 at the moment, and tempted by a 1070 seeing as prices have started to come down. But I have decided that I will wait for Vega seeing as I don't actually need an upgrade at the moment and Ryzen was good so can AMD do the same with Vega??

Yes in new games the 480 is hilariously better.
This video shows the 480 thrashing the 780ti and that is a good bit faster than the normal 780. They were recommending the 970 over the 480 when it was released and now look what happened.
OP is asking about the 4GB version. Though there are nice prices on 8GB ones at ocuk just now.

That's the problem with Classifieds they're A1's, I sold mine within a few months as it wasn't a particulary good overclocker even for an A1. I wish I'd bought the Gigabyte 780 ghz instead.

The Bf1 results just about say's it all with the reference 780ti being alongside an EVGA SSC 960 and a 1050ti. Go Nvidia
I've been sat here for last few days and have almost convinced myself to give up on the waiting and grab a 1080ti as soon as it's available but now when I think that I'll remember to check this video out.
At the expense of sounding like a broken record I'd be very cautious of Kepler benchmarks - a lot of sites seem to have them waaay down on what realworld users see.
For instance in that video for BF1 they have the 480 at around 90 fps and the 780ti around upper 50s yet in very similar scenario/settings with my 780GHz I was easily getting ~80fps. For Doom they have it at 45 v 60 - while I posted a screenshot here awhile back with pretty much the same kind of scenario with the 480 at 67 and the 780GHz (overclocked to about 10% faster than a stock 780ti) at 66FPS using identical testing methods for the 2 cards.

If i was you and buying today i'd be looking at a gtx 1070 deal.
Side note what happened to staying 2nd hand and out of the top tier race

Ha yeah I downgraded whilst waiting for Zen and the real deal high end GPU's. I jokingly said used parts are the way forward, because of today's crazy pricing, although I really do think used products are the best value in the crazy market we have today. I always like to try the latest though. 1080 Ti will likely be my next card.
I was very tempted by that RX480 4GB ASUS card with free Doom, makes the card like just over £100. Thought would make a good spare too. But tbh my 780 Classy will do the same job just fine xD. Not to long to wait for the 1080 Ti now.
I just seen few benches and 480 around 1.5-2.25 times faster than 780. Not to mention an XFX GTR 480@14xx MHz.
