Hi and apologies for yet another upgrade question, but in my defense I am totally out of touch
with all things pc lately due to life and family etc and the ever changing options to what my rig has
compared with others makes searching inconclusive.
So, I built my pc just over a year ago and now I want to upgrade my GPU, my Gigabyte Windforce R9 290 died on me the other day (Out of RMA date of course) so i have had to borrow a card just to use my pc so as I have some spare money and would like a better gaming experience basically,
I love all things Tomb Raidering. :D

My rig is thus---
Intel i7 4930k (not clocked!)
24gb Vengeance RAM
Asus Rampage IV Extreme MB
Corsair 850pro PSU
Samsung SSD 840 as 'C' plus other F3's for storage
H100i CPU cooler
GPU at the moment is a EV3A GTX 660Ti (Borrowed)

My budget is £400 ish so please could you advise my best option to suit my rig baring in
mind I would like to stay with Nvidia ?

I would also like to get ASUS to match my MB so either 1060 or 1070 oc versions but i dont really know whats best to do. Is the 1070 worth the extra £100 ??

Any info would be most appreciated.
Thank you
Lee.

If you can afford a 1070 go for it.
As no brainer as that Rroff !!?? what about it needing a minimum of a 500w PSU and mine is an 850 and i dont really know what all the other components draw from that so
if there enough left for GPU where as the 1060 only needs a 350 i believe ? just want to get it right i guess...£400 is all my saving :p
However if you are suggesting the 1070 on my rig spec then happy days :D thanks for the input mate.

^^ Look at my sig :p

If you are happy with the 290 performance then the 1060 will be adequate but if you want a decent upgrade then the 1070 will do it.

EDIT: 1070s are pretty much of a muchness though I'd just go with the cheapest reputable brand dual fan jobbie from a reputable retailer - you aren't going to get much more for your money spending a bit more with the 1070 generally unless you particularly want a specific cooler.

Shorted thread ever !!! lol 1070 it is then, Big thanks Rroff for easing my mind and feeling confident about spending my savings.
Appreciated.
Lee.

If you want a better gaming experience over your 290 then it has to be the gtx1070. The 1060 isn't really much off an upgrade especially if your 290 was a pre-overclocked version and most would tell you that a RX480 is a better buy in comparison.

So gtx1070 all the way.

Brilliant.
One last question. I am looking at buying this from 3 different suppliers (one is OC.UK) and yet cards are all called a
ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 Strix OC 8192MB they all have slightly different values for Core and Boost...is this normal ?
I believe them to be the exact cards but dont know if i can link here ?
The favorite to buy from has a choice of a free game and is only £418.98 Delivered :D

Why on earth are you spending 418 quid on a 1070?

Odd I'd check the exact product i.e. STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING and not some of them trying to sell the original non-OC strix. TBH though it doesn't make much odds with the 1070 hence my mention of them being much of a muchness they will all boost to around the same ~19xxMHz out the box (regardless of the numbers in the description of a model) and you don't gain any real difference in framerate between models.

Have to agree with easyrider that £418 is a bit much for a 1070, is you get one from a major seller they all have the For Honor/Wildlands offer.
I got an Asus Dual OC a couple of weeks ago for £339 and with the 1080 price drops there is going to be some downward pressure on 1070 prices even without an official price cut and factory overclocks can be easily surpassed by most 1070's so just get the cheapest with a decent looking cooler.
