So my trusty old Nexus 4 is finally giving up the ghost - can only use the top 2/3rds of the screen and the patch I applied only seems to have made it worse. Probably time to get something a bit newer, was looking into cheap contracts as I recently had to replace a laptop as well so want to avoid the upfront cost of a SIM only setup.
Don't really need that much from it, had zero complaints about the performance of my N4 while it was still functional and as I understand it even most budget phones are comparable now. Ideally I'd have preferred to downsize a little - think the 3.7"-4.2" era was perfect, unfortunately almost everything seems to be 5" now which is a bit ridiculous. Keep it in a wallet case too which only adds to the size, but hey ho.
Was looking into and saw a few people mention the deals on mobile phones direct are some of the best at the budget end, don't suppose anyone has any thoughts on that? Can get 24 month contracts with 500 mins, 5000 texts and 1GB data for £10pcm, reduced to £7 w/ cashback. Mostly on talkmobile.
I'm pretty sure 1GB would be alright for me, although the patch I applied to the N4 wiped all of the data so I can't actually check. Mostly within wifi range, use a bit more in the summer for spotify when running but I often just download a podcast on my PC and put it on my phone anyway. Other than that just used as sat nav or Strava for recording runs/bike rides, which doesn't use that much.
Sorts of phones I was looking at on those deals were things like Moto G4 Play, Moto E3, LG K3/K8, Galaxy J3, Xperia E5, Smart Prime 7, Wileyfox Swift. They all seem pretty similar tbh, Just minor differences in spec between them and things like battery/camera performance. ROM scene is a factor, but I don't really mess with all of that unless I feel like the performance is starting to suffer. Was leaning towards the G4 Play after a quick look into all of them, but I just wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts?
Thanks a lot
