hi. I need to have my partners Samsung backed up as need to return it to 02 for a issue it has developed.

What is the best way to back it up.

Our laptops run Win 7.

Photos and videos are of most importance. But things like contacts obviously and text messages etc would also be good if possible to back up.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

it worked great thanks.

but i have another issue:

the memory card in the samsung s7 edge is a sandisk ultra 64gb microsdxc 1.

we have only used 14gb of it with videos and images.

i have a anker sdhc usb card reader and also a sd card reader.

every time i insert it into laptop it show up fine. i start to transfer files and then after a while it sort of times out, cant see it in my computer etc unless i pull it out and start again.

files are all ok, read fine on phone. just need to pull files of phone for back up purposes.

any help be great. driving me nuts as just keeps hanging.

ps: tried the same on three laptops, all running win 7 .

You don't need to backup the sd card,

Just take it out and reinsert it when the phone comes back repaired.

I have had this issue before on win7 but not win10 but was unsure if it was OS, driver or MTP setup that caused it. In the end i transferred files in blocks of 500meg or so, that seemed to be a poor workaround.

That be great. But have the same issue even when transferring files of around 100mb

Using Samsung smart switch, is it ok to back up to SD card and restore from there once phone has been wiped. Probably a silly question! I intend to flash the latest BTU firmware but this time use CSC and reset my S7. Thanks.

Leave the sd card in the phone, connect the phone to pc/laptop and you can back up the card that way.

Might be easier if you keep running into issues to get a cloud storage app and mark all files you want backed up on the SD to be synced. This will take an AGE on wifi (keep the device plugged in while you do it) but will likely work when other methods wont.

Once you get your stuff backed up off the card (to the cloud) it may be worth getting another card as there may be issues with it. Other than that try formatting it - once you've got your stuff off.

Also when trying to transfer your files to your laptop does selecting a single file and transferring work? Either way it's a good idea to have some form on the go backup to your sd card as they have a habit of failing.
