Will you buy a an AIB 1080 ti if it's 799+ ?

Guys,

asked before but didn't got definite answer.
Does EVGA voids the warranty if the stock cooler is replaced with waterblock? Could I use such card later using the upgrade scheme?
(And I do refer for the 1080ti in this case)

No it does not. If you need to send it back just attach the original cooler properly and you'll be fine. Yes you can still use it in the Step Up program.

Hi there everyone. I have an Evga 1080 FTW and yes I will definitely get a 1080 TI. I have cancelled a Nintendo switch so that's freed up £280. I am looking forward to getting a TI and selling my existing card. I play mainly on my PC so feels this will be a nice upgrade. I don't mind losing money on items that I use daily as its my hobby.

Do you live in a shed?

Will I ****! £550 for my 980 Ti was just about justifiable as it's been the price of high end cards for a while (particularly as £290 of it came from a refund for a 780 I'd bought a year earlier) but £700+ is crazy money.

£750 is my max self justification.

I still think it's a bit too much and I plan on buying one myself if Vega disappoints. Then again, I wouldn't plan on upgrading for a good many years after I've bought it, so I'd get good value out of it. And it's only upgrading from a 970, so it should be a massive leap in performance. From 3.5GB to 11GB... why is Nvidia stingy with VRAM?

Do you smoke? Do you drink alcohol? Do you spend money on some other hobby? How much do you spend on your holidays and weekend breaks? How about cars?

So spare us the mothering. We buy what we want, when we want, and making the decisions as we see fit to our own WANT not NEED.

I'm in a similar boat, I've literally got no other thing to spend my regular earnings on right now besides tech. I don't even pay bills or rent (blame this area for being too expensive for me to get a place of my own). So for me, such an expense is justified fairly well, not like my money is going elsewhere.

And I see where you're coming from, if someone else buys something, why should a different person care? It doesn't affect them right? But then that's the issue. It does. £799 1080tis selling fairly decently shows confirms to Nvidia that they were right to price it that high and next time round, they would be confident to price it even higher.

If something sells well, then companies will want to repeat that success. What it would mean is that even at the low end, Nvidia will (and currently is) increase prices in the future. It's like video games that are broken on launch or have issues. They still sell tons of copies, so developers now realise that it's okay to continue to sell their products in that way. Now it's par for the course for games not to be working properly on release.

Exactly. I just spent nearly £400 just to play Zelda. Well worth it too :p

Meanwhile I spend a mere £50. And that was worth it too. It's not even about being able to afford it, cos I could also easily afford '£400 for Zelda'. It's just a matter of what each individual values it at. I don't think it's good value when I'm in a position where I can pay much less for the same thing. I will admit though, most folks don't have the choice for only £50 like I did.

It is just market forces though, you could levy that argument against Apple consumers and home owners. The worst scenario is if one UK retailer literally buys up the whole allocation for the region and artificially starves the market or you are forced to trade with a single partner/importer.

This is effectively what happens with some branded musical instruments.

That's completely wrong. Having this expectation that no one should buy a product you perceive as expensive so that the price drops and you can buy at the price you consider fair is flawed. The market doesn't work that way. A product sells if people get value out of it. People look at their need, at what they want and no one cares what someone else thinks and that is the right attitude. I don't buy so you or someone else can do whatever, I buy for myself, to satisfy my needs, based on my budget. If you don't like the price, either don't buy or buy something you can afford. It's as simple as that. I am not talking about you specifically here mahius :). Just whoever makes this argument. it's like everything else in life, you buy what satisfy at least some of your needs and what you can afford.

I got my EVGA Superclock 2.0 980 for £440 about 28 months ago and it's served me brilliantly but I really want to drive my 4K monitor as its intended res in games now. Skipped the 1080 because it can't do it so hopefully the Ti will be able to and I'll make the leap. Also I have £500 of credit on my OC account so I'll definitely be willing to spend a bit more on a top AIB card. That or when I go to the US in May I'll pick one up there depending on exchange rates etc.

I could have kept my Wii U and got Zelda for £40. But I sold it while it was still worth something. In the end at least I got a nice upgrade to the switch for cheap and the ability to play Zelda in bed and in the toilet :p

Each to their own end of the day. I could easily buy a 1080Ti now, but there is nothing to play right now for me so once all the benchmarking is done it would sit there.

I don't understand (beyond currency fluctuations, etc) why the 1080 Ti is so much more than the 980Ti either.

I bought an EVGA SC and it has been a great card. (550 about 14 months ago). Why is the 1080 version so much more? In other technologies (TV's for example), the technology gets cheaper relatively at each technology change. Early plasmas were relatively way more expensive than early OLEDS I think.

Anyhows, a 1080Ti is on the cards for me over the next month or so - now have to decide on FE or 3rd party.

Does the FE, blowing air out the back, make the overall case temperatures lower?
