Well after countless hours of work.. i finally finished building my first gaming pc today. I went to switch it on then it started beeping (one long beep and two short) so opened it up and the GTX 1070 was flashing red. Wasn't VGA cables as they were all in place. So after switching on and off several times. Came back to it again, and found this time it wouldn't power up. Checked the power supply plug round the back, and pushed it in only for it to start sparking. Now the PC isn't turning on at all...

What have i done? Please tell me there's light at the end of a tunnel, and it isn't a train.

Did the PSU come with the adapter to fake it being plugged into the mobo? I'd disconnect the PSU from the rest of the components personally, to avoid them getting fried. Then I'd try and find out if the PSU was faulty, either by firing it up with the adapter in or you can buy PSU testers. In the meantime I'd look at getting a backup PSU. I doubt it being plugged into an extension block is the problem.

Not sure, It came with the 24-pin Mobo cable. Have now disconnected everything from it. I'll look into getting a PSU tester. I hope it's covered under warranty. Would i get an identical PSU?

It only happened after i pushed the PC back a bit, on the carpet, so i could slot in the HDMI cable from the monitor. The side panel was off so i could see what was going on.

And i think i know what was causing the beeping sound. The mobo cable doesn't look like it was in right, i pushed it hard enough, i think it may have slid when i was putting the GPU in (it's huge!) is it supposed to be right up against the small groove, like a snug fit?

Unplug the machine, firmly seat the power plug on the motherboard and PSU, then turn on the power at the wall.

What happens?

Before i do, will i just plug in the mobo cable and nothing else just incase? So then i'll know the power is working at least when the LED light flashes.

Did you seat the motherboard on the stand offs before screwing the motherboard down

I pressed it down on them whilst screwing it on through the holes into the stand offs. Only the one at the bottom right corner isn't seated as the screw catched the stand off before going all the way in, so it became stuck. When i tried to unscrew it, it came out still inside the stand off. I had to grip the stand off so i could get the screw out, then put the stand off back in, but the hole is a bit loose now due to the stand off being unknowingly screwed out whilst i was trying to get the catched screw out. The screw is now firmly in the stand off, it's just now, the stand off is hanging off because the hole in the case is no longer small enough. So i have no way of keeping it down in place.

That motherboard power connector is nowhere near all the way in. They should sit flush against each other. Never ever fiddle with psu connectors or the plug that goes into the psuwhen it has power. Always turn off the power at the mains before fiddling with these as you can easily damage things else.

Ok i unplugged everything, and only plugged back in the motherboard with the connector now firmly in place, and then turned the power on the wall. It's still not booting up though. Do i need to plug the CPU back in aswell for it to do so?
