Is the HUE+ the best lighting system to buy?

As title I'm considering getting a full rgb lighting system for my build. Is the hue+ the way to go as I see corsair has something similar out now.

I had one and it was great at first - but after a couple of months the LEDs started failing and it became quite unreliable (lights would frequently go out, the LEDS wouldn't change colour when I changed them etc.). I wouldn't buy another one.

phillips is a rip off. much cheaper alternatives available which do the exact same job for cheaper.

even lifx IMO is a rip off but it's still 30% cheaper than HUE

Not the same thing... NZXT have a lighting kit called HUE+, not to be mistaken for the Philips Hue system, which I'd have thought would obviously not be for internal PC use lol!

On a side note though, regards Philips, I quite like mine. I have several of the bulbs in my hallway, office and bedroom, and they work well... although the official app for controlling them is rubbish, some far better third party ones.

As for the HUE+, I have heard a few instances of them failing over time, but I don't know how commonplace this is.

Sorry its a late reply

Don't get any of these kit things

Get a £12 RGB LED strip kit from ebay, solder yourself a molex onto the connector which goes into the white controller block. You get 5m of lights which you can cut and use the other end of elsewhere for £15 including controller, a good remote etc. Don't need to use a crappy 5.25" bay controller thing, and it is much cheaper and more customisable

I have both a Hue+ in my PC and standard RGB strips in my room for mood lighting and they are very different beasts.

The Hue+ has loads more options that aren't available with a standard RGB strip and remote control due to each LED on the strip being able to be controlled separately.

I'm doing exactly this with an LED strip this weekend hopefully - I went for a solid color rather than RGB (wasn't sure I'd have space behind the motherboard for the white control block) but it looks simple enough and should perform better than a lot of the PC specific LED strips I've seen.

Plus I can customise it to get the lighting exactly how I need without having single 30cm strips.

I've been very happy with my Hue+. Only issue I've come across is the odd firmware upgrade issue which is solved by power cycling the Hue+.

Agree, I've been through a few LED kits but now ive settled with the NZXT Hue+ system which has been great. It's highly recommended.

Another pretty neat Lighting system is Aquacomputers Farbwerk (Color Factory). It works well as a standalone item or with an Aquero, but main perks is if you have a custom loop. It call pull readings from components in the loop like water temp, resistors, flow rate etc and adjust the lighting profile based on that. Each unit can support 4 individual strips of standard 5050 strips so can be as long or short in length as you like. Its quiet pricey once you add up the cost for the parts and cable connectors, but as I say, works great if you have a loop and more so with an Aquero unit.
