In no particular order. Today...

#1 People who "Queue" adjacent to parked vehicles on the other side of the road in a manner that prevents the passage of oncoming traffic.

Today's example.

(Definitions. Upstream=my side of the road, Downstream=other side of the road)

[Rant]

Me, travelling upstream come to a point where a line of cars are parked on the downstream side of the road. There is a request (No marked bay) bus stop about halfway along the line of parked cars.

A bus, travelling downstream, has stopped to allow passengers to board and alight. this blocks the road. I stop making sure that there is plenty of room for the Bus to clear the parked cars.

Behind me, traffic begins to queue.

Behind me, there are other cars parked on the Downstream side of the road. Upstream drivers queue adjacent to them.....

This means, that when the bus attempts to continue its journey there is no room for it to get through.

The truck that is behind the Bus (And the other traffic that was behind the truck) closely follows the Bus until the Bus cannot proceed further.

If I could move forward, it would be possible for other people behind me to move forward to create space for the Bus to get past the parked car.

Unfortunately the truck behind the bus is now preventing me from doing so.

We are now gridlocked! :(

Fortunatly, I am in the LC, so I am actually able to break the gridlock by mounting the (Higher than normal) kerb and drive up onto the 30 degree angle grass bank to create enough room for everybody to start moving again.

But really, If I had been in my car (E36 compact), I wouldn't have been able to do this and we would probably all still be there fuming.

As it is, I still might have risked damaging my tyres mounting the kerb (They are road SUV tyres, Not rock crawlers)

And in any case, this situation shouldn't have arisen in the first place if the Rancid, Festering, Chum Buckets behind me hadn't "queued" adjacent to the parked cars.

[/Rant]

tbf, the people who caused the gridlock, may well have been unaware that's what they were doing.

what is of more importance, is anyone who can't park parallel and within the confines of a space, i'm not talking the "drive in and abandon" crowd either, I'm talking the take a solid 5 minutes to reverse, come out, come back in, rinse and repeat crowd.

because of course, you get 2 of these jokers, separated by a space (because presumably they tried to park adjacent to each other and missed), you take said space because it's the only one going and park parallel between them (because parking parallel to the space would have you in their drivers seat), then by the time you get back they've both left and you've got a fresh ding from their doors and look like an ass who cant park right.

Talking/Txting and driving (And yes, along with DUI, the other sacred Cow of road safety that must never be questioned) are "Obviously" dangerous, but are they really??

What we have here are dangerous behaviours that, statistically, are not dangerous at all!

And you question other people driving standards?

.

How could they not realise???

How can you possibly move into a position where you cannot see "Oh, If I go here, I am going to block people coming the other way because there is a vehicle parked on the other side of the road"

Really How, How, How???

Sorry, total ** Please fully star swearing. I understand you're angry but thems the rules - EVH **

Clearly you haven't driven through Birmingham. Standard of driving there is truely awful, near miss/accident every few minutes driving through the city. Worst driving I've seen.

You're in West Yorkshire, take a drive through Bradford at some point - I'm sure it will challenge Birmingham, certainly exceeds it in my experience. It's quite astounding really, as soon as you reach the city borders the standard of driving takes a noticeable decline that worsens exponentially as you navigate along the ring roads and into the west and northern areas.

Welcome to my life as a bus driver :D

Seriously, this happens to me in a bus about 3 times a day :D

Haha I have driven through Bradford before. I'd say it was on par with Brum. :p

Spend a week driving in peak London traffic. All of the above with black cabs, suicidal cycle couriers and super-entitled rich numpties who think they're at Le Mans.

Sympathise with you OP. I think it's just a combination of lack anticipation or consideration for others. I experience similar every evening on my way home, with people sitting in the yellow boxes on the Darenth Interchange, bringing the whole junction to a standstill.

People who don't understand yellow box junctions should be buried under them.

Alive.

3 lorries. One doing 50, one doing 52 and one doing 54mph.

Effectively turned the motorway into a rolling road block.

The tailback this caused was massive.

They really should bring in a law that lorries are allowed in the most left hand lane only, no matter what and no overtaking.

I don't see any tailback :p;) TBF I think this has already been covered many times on these forums. :)

Trouble with that idea is that they would just go nose to tail meaning that nobody would be able to join from on-slips. (Or even move from L2 to L1 so they can get onto an off-slip  )

having said that, I certainly think that there should be a rule that unless a HGV (or anybody else for that matter) can complete an overtake within (say) 15 seconds, you should just hang back and match speed with the veihicle in front.

Similarly, when cruising past On-slips in L1, you should be required to maintain a FOUR second gap with the vehicle in front so that joining traffic actually has somewhere to go.

I had some massive bell on a Harley-like bike filter to the right hand side of me at a mini roundabout when I was at the front of the queue and moving slowly forward onto the roundabout (whilst indicating right), who then overtook me, also turned right and tried to overtake the person in front of me whilst they were on the roundabout. Completely retarded.

Most people were at my side waiting to join in behind me by the time the photo got taken as I was coming down at some speed, friend struggled to get the camera mode on from his seat while it was in my holder lol.

I can raise you on that.

Some years ago I was at a roundabout (The A30 one at the top of the hill outside Yateley near Blackbush airport if anybody knows it) and wanted to take first left. To my right, there was a car at the line signalling "right".

A Biker had "Filtered" to the "Right" of the right signalling car.

The size of the roundabout meant that, at this point, I could have gone safely even if the car to my right (you know, the right signalling one) had wanted to go straight ahead and use the exit I was wanting to use.

So, I went.

Next thing I knew I had the Biker (the one who was to the "Right" of the "Right" signalling car!) up my arse giving me the finger and being all righteously furious.

Its a roundabout, not a track-day. Just because you have a super sport turbo nija ****** bike that can do 0-60 in 1.8 seconds doesn't mean that you should do it on a roundabout,(Or anywhere on the public highway really) especially if you have picked a line that is totally misleading to other road users.

Waiting to filter in just downstream of some traffic lights I notice a bit of a gap followed by a small queue, the lady driving the first car had her phone held in front of her as if she was talking into it.

I overtook her at one of the following set of lights thinking I had escaped her when, whilst in a queue of traffic further on , she appeared behind me avidly texting while occasionally glancing up to check she hadn't crashed into me. She then moved on to talking on the phone again. Luckily in the end our paths separated.
She was just oblivious to everything except her phone.

figured i post my rant here.

why is it always the middle aged ladies that have to drive the biggest cars
was stuck behind land rover discovery, because she was too scared overtaking a cyclist.
