Hey guys, bit of a weird one this, Wife had her car in for a service and after it was cleaned she noticed that two of the panels have gone matte. She kicked up a stink but they didn't have anyone on site who could help on the saturday.
Normal vs matte:

Only problem we have is that it was covered in mud before she took it in, last time we washed it (about a month ago) it was fine, but you can clearly see theres something up. The surface seems perfectly smooth, but something's gone weird!

That side probably had a spray over about 2 years ago, blending in after an accident, but its been fine since then. It also has one of those paint protection things on it, which was reapplied after the repair.

Anyone know what could have caused this?

Wouldn't put anything on it till the garage has looked at. Maybe some heavy duty tfr was used. Let them sort it.

Looks like someone used something abrasive to "clean" it. It will need machine polishing it to get it back to normal (assuming it's just on the surface).

weirdly it doesn't appear to be scratched or anything - the surface seems to be completely smooth just non-reflective :(

Waiting for a call back from the garage

Wonder what it was cleaned with, even a sponge on dirt wouldn't cause as much surface damage I would think... Unless it was without water or very little of it and they simply ended up "sanding" down the clear coat. I'd be peeved if anyone did that to my car.

It should polish off but it depends how deep it is. It literally looks like someone took harsh cutting compound on your paint.

Perhaps traffic film remover left on the panel.
This is what I'm thinking too. TFR is nasty stuff if not diluted properly or left on the panels too long.

Definitely do nothing until you've taken it back and tell them in no uncertain terms that it was *not* like that before you bought it in.

the body shop who did the repair work previously have suggested the same, they'll do a machine polish on it for us, but i'm still wait (and chasing) Land Rover to get an answer back from them - shocking really as they were very quick to phone up and take payment for the warrantee!

Should you be touching it at all? I'd leave it as is.

Have you got more pictures, my thoughts if it was a TFR, the damage would be more patchy, but that looks uniform, almost as if someones taken it off and sprayed it?
