980 bios issue

my 980 does not allow me access to the bios, plus it takes around 2-3 minutes to boot to the desktop.

the card works fine on my current set-up once booted, but i am concerned that when i use this 980 with all the new parts i have bought for a new build that it might cause issues.

i have read around that some people that have had similar issues have resolved it by flashing their bios.

i have not done this since installing this current mobo, so maybe this is why?

bios ver. f4

there are updates for it, so maybe it is not up to spec and it does not recognise the 980, as it is quite recent?

I think he is saying that he gets no video signal during post, but everything seems to work fine once windows has booted..

Which video port are you using to connect your monitor to the gpu?
 
i use a display port.
my spare 660 works using the display port fine.

hitting delete does not allow me access to the bios during post.
after 2 mins it just goes black.
i tried another 980 and it is the same.
when i installed my old 660 it boots withing 20secs and when i hit delete, i can access the bios.

so this only happens with the two 980 cards, not the 660.

flash the bios to update it, so i fully recognises them?

my mobo has never been flashed, so itis over due for flashing, i beleive.
 
someone told me i might need to flash my 980's??

surely not :(

there must be a way to find out if newer mobo bios flashes address compatiblity issues with certain newer cards.

i don't think mine has ever been flashed since i bought it.

i think my mbob came out sometime in early 2012!
 
I doubt the GPU BIOS needs updating, I don't think I've ever seen a fix from a GPU BIOS, generally people flash them to unlock shaders, cores, or change the default clock speeds of GPU core and/or memory, and change the fan profile.

If the GPU isn't working then I would guess motherboard BIOS needs updating. Try that GPU in another machine and if it works ok, then you know the GPU is fine.
 
both 980's are working.

it just takes them 2-3mins to boot and i cannot access the bios.

both 980's are from different sources.

it is the same with both.

the 660 is fine.

the problem is that i cannot access the post mobo splasscreen functions at all.

not even the q-flash utility.

the quandry is this:

how do i make the mobo fully recognise the gpu if i cannot flash the bios due to the gpu?

if i knew that i would have issues with the gpu being fully recognised by the mobo, i would never have bought the gpu.

luckily i have the 660 to fall back on so i can install that to get into the bios, but i would prefer not having to go through all that hassle, but i may have to.

i was thinking of uninstalling the 980 and rebooting so as to use the onboard gpu, but i disabled that around a year ago, as i was trying to troubleshoot an issue i was having that was potentially related to having onboards graphics enabled.

eitherway, i'm going to find out if i can flash the mobo bios withy the 980 installed.
if not, i will just have to reinstall the 660 so i can get into the bios.

this is one very good reason to always have a spare gpu laying around!
 
Boot from your integrated graphics, flash whatever, then put the 980 back in.

Issue is that you have an old 2nd gen core system, and a modern gpu that supports EFI etc.
 
that's what i mean.
the integrated grphics chip is turned on/off from the bios.
it has been turned off.
i cannot get into the bios to turn it on.
