What would be the general consensus on disposing of any old defunct/unused computers and peripherals, straight in the trash, recycle, etc..?

As a private individual I'd just stick it in the general rubbish bin, companies on the other hand have to adhere to WEEE regulations and other things when it comes to disposal.

If it's a single mouse or other small item then the general rubbish is fine.

If you're talking about more significant items then do the decent thing and take them to your local tip where they can be dealt with properly. I wouldn't expect to be able to dump a PC or laser printer in with my usual domestic waste.

Why would I offer my trash for free? The items were taken to the tip, they have a separate area for computers and electronic goods.

Because someone else may be able to use them in some meaninful way. Rather then just ending up in a hole in the ground somewhere. Though to each their own and all.

One mans trash is another mans treasure as they say. People find creative ways to use the most random of things.

Honestly depends on what it was/is.

The general thing to do with old parts would be A: See if anybody can make use of it (charity shop, gumree/facebook) or B: take it to the local tip.

I've picked up a couple old pieces of kit from facebook that I found uses for.
