I'm currently looking for a daily after moving out (used my sisters car for years as a daily)
I'll be doing mostly local short journeys (6 miles to work and back) and the odd long run.

I am looking for something reliable, comfortable and something with at least 130/140bhp. Manual or Auto as long as its reliable. I want something fairly large but wont rule out hatch backs (came from a Leon). I am not too bothered about MPG but if its good thats a bonus. Currently using my supra as a daily LOL

what is out there for my budget?

I've been looking at accords, not clued up on the engines, heard the diesel is good in terms of MPG but there are some issues with it.
Does anyone know much about the Audi A4, the 1.8T engines? are they reliable or prone to known issues? I'm really wanting a qautro, I can get an early 2004 model for my budget.

As for some folk mocking the budget itself, yes its not a lot but I got a grand a month mortgage to pay and I can happily say that is the only debt I have :)

I don't think they are mocking the budget, the thread title reads like you have a budget of £2500 per day for a car, not a £2500 total budget for a daily driver.

Exactly this, the use of the word daily made it sound like he has 2500 quid every day for a car :P

Nothing wrong with his real budget.

Not sure about the 7th gen Accord diesels all I know was they were praised at the time in terms of their frugal-ness.

The 2.0 and 2.4 petrol engines are pretty much bulletproof, our 2.0 has nearly hit 160k miles and the only thing that's gone which was a few months ago is the Brake master cylinder is leaking, that's it pretty much, it gets serviced every year and it keeps chugging its just been a great car.

£2500 of petrol for the Supra will last a long time doing 12 miles a day.

I'd have a v8 if I was only doing 12 miles a day. Thats nothing :D

I used to do 10 miles a day in a mk2 Focus ST and a tank would last nearly a month (with trips in between).

Oh sorry thought you were taking the Michael lol I'll edit the title when I get on pc

I'll look at the petrol hondas see what's around.
Which model of mondeo are fully loaded is it the ghia? Which engine is reliable generally?

Btw it's 6 miles in total to work and back so 3 each way :)

Between my wife and I we have a Mini and Supra so we need something with boot space. Yaris is too small :(

Ive been looking at Jaguar X Type, Im seeing a lot of 2.5 V6 and 3.0 v6 with 4 x4. Does anyone know which is the best?

Are the Mondeos 2.2 diesels any good, looking at a few ST versions. Choices, choices...

The Mondeo ST220 is better than the X type variant. It ticks all the boxes you are looking for.
And no the 2.2 diesels from that era are not reliable.

I'm not convinced the ST220 is the right suggestion though. He already has a Supra and as good as the ST220 is it's simply not going to compare to that. Why have all the associated running costs of the big 3 liter when the 2 liter petrol will do the job just as well and be considerably cheaper to run. There's also the fact that there are only 9 ST220's for sale nationally inside the budget criteria so it's not going to be an easy car to find.

For 3 miles a way I'd really be looking at nice simple n/a petrols. It's not a long enough trip to warm up a turbo or benefit from the mpg advantages of a diesel.
