As title, currently have a DS3 THP remapped to 190bhp and while its good fun, its not great in terms of handling and I feel like I want something a bit nicer?

So, budget is ~£7k, requirements are decent power, decent handling and preferably more than 2 seats. Honestly though, this isn't a deal breaker.

I've been looking at the MK2 TT recently, specifically the 3.2 V6. I know its not a modern engine by any standards, nor is it efficient, but my annual mileage is only roughly 8-10k so MPG isn't an issue.

Being quite an old engine design too, I expect there is no real issues as none seem to be reported online.

I'm open to other suggestions of course, so please throw in some curveballs!

Seems odd that you want to move on from the DS3 due to the lackluster handling, but lust after a nose heavy TT.

I like the TT, but it's not where you turn to for the most involving, dynamic and sharp drive.

I should clarify, the DS3 is by no means bad handling, if anything the suspension is too hard for the roads sometimes... it's great on good roads but very crashy on rough surfaces.

I think the idea of the TT was partly influenced by the noise! Having always had 4 pots, I'd love the thrill of a V6 or straight 6

TT is a very easy car to live with, major downside is the steering, whilst reasonably quick it has little feel, the V6 sounds nice but you will be better off with the 2.0 TFSI.

Nissan 350Z?

Certainly another option. From research it seems it's a better car to drive in handling terms, but not quite as nice inside?

Mercedes SLK?
Honda S2000?

More than 2 seats, how about:
BMW 335I a friend had one, was great fun.

I'd love an S2k but the price for a well looked after one seems to be going the wrong way now!

SLK doesn't really interest me, 335 is a potential but I'd have to try one and see if I really need that sort of size car rather than being daft and getting something fun.

The steering sounds a lot like my current car then, works perfectly well but devoid of all feeling.

If a TT will do (ie you can cope with the two seats)...

What about a Boxster, yes it will be older than the TT though.

I'll shout the Z4 out as well since I own one, Its a great drive, sounds glorious when pushing past 4.5k rpm, drinks less fuel than the S2000 and 350Z, Boot is very spacious manage to get 3 golf bags in it.

One thing I will say which i'll be checking on every car I now buy, interior quality, the Z4 is BMW's worst attempt at an interior ever, And I mean in terms of rattles, Do a google search and you'll see tons of threads about it. Mine is as rattley as my old Mk2 Clio 1.2!

So find one where someone has spent the time going through the car and eradicated the rattles, also make sure the roof motor has been located to the boot since the motor is located in a place that can turn into a lake if the drain holes get blocked.

no to z4 3.0 then? I think as a roadster is pretty good for under 7k you'll get a great example.

Not discounted at all, just not had time to evaluate the presented options. Insurance may well factor in too, a quick check had a 350Z as nearly £1000 more than my current premium!

Thanks, will take all this into consideration. I'm not up to speed on the Z4 so much, any must haves in terms of spec?

Seems the insurance hike is only applicable to the Zed, all the others are around £2-300 extra over my current DS3, so I fear that pushes it out of contention.

Regarding the Boxster idea, as much as I'd love a Porsche I wouldn't be buying one at this end of the market. Heard too many stories of the vast money pits they can become!

Seems a bit mad on the 350z :p Just done my insurance again today for ~£460. I think post code is a real killer though as I expect a 300-400 increase when moving a few miles away

Having a postcode beginning with M seems a sure way to get shafted!

I'd have hoped at 27 and having had a license for 10 years with no accidents or points that I wouldn't be seeing over £1k insurance for anything other than daft sports cars, but yay Manchester risks!
