*** PROBLEM SOLVED ***

Spec:
  • 2500K (Clock taken off)
  • MB MSI P67A C43 (B3)
  • MSI GTX 1070 Armour OC (Not clocked) 3 x DP 1 x HDMI and 1 x DVI
  • 16Gb Memory
  • 650W Corsair PSU
  • DELL U2515H 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz, IPS
I’ve installed the MSI GTX 1070 Armour OC Edition into the above rig but I can’t get a display (no signal) when using any of the available DP ports.

It works seamlessly when connected via the DVI on an old 1080p monitor and works on my Dell 1440p monitor at 60Hz when connected through an HDMI cable. And I had a R9 280X working via the DP port without a problem before replacing it with the 1070.

However, I need the use of the DP ports as my setup uses 2 x 1440 Monitors - so I need to get the DP ports working – but the card/screen doesn’t recognise the display when connected via any of the 3 available DP ports.

Things I’ve tried:
  • Checked that the monitor is set to DP when connected via DP.
  • Updated the MB to the latest BIOS (But I’m aware my MB is old and the PCIe is second generation but I had a R9 280x working via the DP with no problems before swapping it out for the 1070)
  • Tried 2 different 1.2 DP leads but have ordered another to try.
  • Updated all drivers including adding the dedicated DELL monitor drivers.
  • Turned my Monitor off at the wall for 10 minutes.
  • Disabled all clocks, set BIOS to defaults and disabled UEFI (Read somewhere this can help).
Any suggestions appreciated as I’m at a loss as to how to resolve this. It’s possible that it’s a hardware conflict (MB too old) but seems a bit strange for the DP not to work when all other alternative ports do. Plus, I need to establish that the DP ports work for return purposes – but would be unusual for all 3 to be borked.

How long is the DisplayPort cable? It shouldn't be an issue at that res/refresh really but just though I'd ask. For 4k I could not find a 3m one that worked.

I also heard the 9 series had issues with the displayport, but have not heard if this issue was fully resolved with the 10 series. Some users reported the screen would go blank and in order to return the signal, the monitor would need to be fully unplugged from the power for a few mins then plugged back in. Again, that doesn't sound like your issue exactly but just throwing it out there.

Thanks for the reply any suggestions at this point are greatly received as I'm flummoxed.

Both the leads I've tried are 2m - as is the VESA certified one which should arrive tomorrow (But my other leads are good quality shielded cables).

I'll try disconnecting my monitor again - sometimes these things need time to decide to work.

I keep reading about the display adapter issues (now I've researched my problem) - I can't decipher whether it's a problem with the ports/card or whether it's a conflict with hardware/software - or both. Confusing...

*** SOLVED *** (*for now)

OK - this will probably put the kiss of death on it - but I think I've fixed it.

How? - No idea.

All I did was rinse and repeat the methods, that I had listed already in my first post, and it's now working. I've done enough builds to know that this can happen and I'm old enough now just to be happy with the conclusion without the need for an explanation. Trouble is I'm also experienced enough to know that this could all be a temporary illusion and it will bite me in the butt at a later date (the down side of just being happy with the conclusion).

For now, it's working and I'm going to carry on in blissful ignorance as to how or why - but if you find yourself with a similar problem and tried the most obvious solutions look at my check list in my first post and know that one, or a combination of them, has worked and may be worth trying out.

I'm pretty much having the same issue on my Asus 1080ti FE. I've tried all the steps in your post and also have a new supposedly certified cable being delivered on Monday to try.

What build are you putting it in and what monitor are you using?

If you have the option remember to change PCIe to third generation (I didn't have that option as my board is so old).

Hope the cable works for you...

Edit: Have you had any signs of life at all or have you had no signal at all?

I recently helped a friend who I gave a new monitor. She initially used display port and we had issues restarting the PC and booting from cold. Switching to dvi solved it. I did some go ogling and apparently there a power component to display port. What was happening was that power from the monitor was flowing back preventing a proper shutown of the PC. Not sure what would solve that but a good cable is defo a place to start
