Gigabyte MB not getting past BIOS.

Hi guys.

I bought a second hand motherboard off ebay for my i5 2550K as I wanted to OC the CPU, but I ran into serious trouble. :(

The board is GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.0) mATX board. When I got it, I updated to the latest UEFI bios and managed to OC to 4.4GHz, at 4.5 I got bluescreens and hangs. It was not 100% stable at 4.4 as the computer froze irregularily.

I did some reading and managed to figure out that I could increase the LLC (can't remember what the setting is called now), and I got it working last night after some trouble. The voltage was a bit high however and 1.5V so I wanted to take it down a notch and set the value to +0.100, so that it went from 1.245 up to max 1.35 or so.

Problem is that this morning it wouldn't boot, it was stuck in a boot loop. It booted to a black screen for a few sec, after a few attempts it went to DualBIOS screen and rebooted again, rinse and repeat. Yesterday I also had to reset the main BIOS from the dual as it got corrupted.

After I had tried all sorts of things, reset with clear CMOS, taking out the battery, turning the PSU off and turning back on while holding the start button to force the DualBIOS etc, it just came on 1 sec (clicked on) and then reboot, 1 sec - reboot...

I am now out of ideas as I have tried all I could find online and it doesn't work. I had to reinstall my previous ASUS H61 mobo and that works like a charm, but with no OC functionality. Is the board totally dead and I've just lost £50, or is there anything at all I can try?

Specs:
GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 (rev. 1.0)
i5 2550K
2x4GB Crucial 1333 RAM
MSI R9 390 8GB
1TB + 1.5TB HDD
DVD burner
Aerocool 600W PSU

What you probably need to do is get the backup BIOS to rewrite the main BIOS, I've had this issue plenty of times in my time with the Z77-D3H. I can't remember where I found the link which describes how to do it but IIRC I think you turn the PSU off, hold the power on switch on the case then flick the PSU back on. Google Gigabyte backup BIOS force or something like that, I see you've already done it once but many it got corrupted again, when it happened to me it would just freeze on the BIOS or black screen.

Hi Doogles,

Thanks for the reply. The problem however is that I tried that even after the computer got into a boot loop, it worked once but after that the DualBIOS feature won't work. Before I gave up and it kept clicking on for less than a second, it didn't work to use this force BIOS function as it never even got as far as loading the BIOS.

I tried 2 methods of forcing the BIOS update, the method you describe, and holding the power button for about 5 secs. None of these worked now.

Found this thread that I may try later http://www.overclockers.com/forums/...-Forcing-backup-BIOS-on-Gigabyte-motherboards
Just a bit awkward as I have to move computers and monitor's around for easier tinkering, but I'll give that a shot.

Have you got it working yet? I'm fairly certain you can save it.

find disabling dual Bios when ever I get a motherboard solves 50% of issues that arises in the future .
seems an issue is not have both bios's set to the same issue and can cause reboot loops if anything goes wrong . Might not be the problem but using a PS/2 keyboard and Alt+F12 should allow you to copy one bios to the other, but from the sounds of it you've tried updating one bios at a time

on a side note, seems google has stated issue being 8 pin not pushed in 100% and causes looping. a last shot?

Curious if you can get it back working as well, I have the same board but didn't flash to UEFI as it's still stated to be beta. F13 has been rock solid for me.

Not OP but have a simular motherboard and I've never been able to disable DualBios?

Hi guys,

Thanks for your comments. I'm gonna check if I can get something sorted as I'd have to take everything out again (no spare CPU etc), so it's a bit tedious :(

I'll check the manual if the dualbios can be disabled, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Right... Gave this hunk of junk another go, but no luck. Plugged in a PS/2 keyboard and mashed a lot of buttons and combinations but the board will NOT react. All it does is start up black screen, reboots a few times, starts up with DualBIOS screen, rinse and repeat...

I'm suspecting it may have something to do with the fact that 3-4 pins were ever so slightly bent when I received it as it was not packed very well. No antistatic bag, no socket cover and a few crumpled up pieces of paper in the box... You can't see any bent pins now, but it's either that or else I have no idea. Thinking if I can contact the seller and maybe claim my money back or if I'm **** out of luck... Might have paid with a credit card instead of PayPal as well, but that shouldn't matter I guess.

So, I have an update if anyone can be helped.. I had put it to the side for a while but decided to give it one more go and actually got it working. I tried something that I was sure I had done before, but apparently not correctly. I managed to get the bios to update by holding power and reset button for 10 seconds, this forced the DualBIOS to kick in and restore the main BIOS. It is now working fine at 4.5GHz :)

I had a similar issue with 2 Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3's, ended up being mobo flex. After leaving the board for a day it would start working again for a while and become intermittent, until the pc wouldn't get to the bios.
