So apparently i clicked on a popup that was actually some sort of a subscription to a fan club (I am now been charged 0.99 a week on my EE Mobile bill), but i don't remember actually subscribing to anything.

I contacted EE and they said that they can't actually do anything so i will have to pay the charges already incurred, and will have to contact this fraudulent company to cancel my apparent subscription.

Now im a bit peeved off at this because i reckon EE should have cancelled this and blocked any charges due to me having no recollection of ever signing up for this service, and i typed the number they gave me to contact on google and there are more people who have fallen to the same scam (i told the cus rep this and he didnt seem to give a ****).

Now i'm just wondering what i can do about this, and who should i complain to? do i block EE from taking money from my bank and contact trading standards?

Rather concerning that a popup can subscribe you to something. How could that work .

I'd ring EE again see if they can block future charges from that company. If it's a scam I'd be surprised if they'd stop charging you. Not convinced preventing EE from taking money is a good idea would probably cause you trouble in the long run.

So it wasn't a separate payment, it was attached to your monthly bill?

I'd be asking why EE can't sort that, in all fairness. But then again I've seen random charges and poor customer service from EE in the past and no longer use them, so I'm not surprised.

Perhaps try their customer service again, cutting the direct debit will probably cause more aggravation to you than it would them, but I appreciate why you'd do it.

All the networks allow you to be signed up to premium services. I had a similar issue where someone had used my number to sign up to a competition and was charged £5 on my bill. I contacted the company and got refunded, I also set up a bar on premium rate services on my EE account so it can't happen again in the future. I believe you can text the word bar to 150 and it should block premium rate services in the future.

Name of the company taking the money? I had something similar when my son clicked on something on his tablet whilst tethered to my mobile.

A strongly worded letter mentioning things like "small claims", "admin charges", "late payment charges" got a refund cheque issued within 24 hours

Similar thing happened to me, apparently I signed up to something I hadn't even heard of. Was about £7.20, they said I had to contact the company for a refund.

I did so and they sent me £7.20 via paypal within the hour.....bit shady.

I had an unexpected charge start appearing on my Vodafone bill. I was told it must have been something I'd signed up for, that it would have sent confirmation to my phone and that I should now text STOP to the number they gave me, however they would not be refunding me the charges already there.
I then spent about fifteen minutes on a "rant & rave" via online chat and had all of the charges credited back to my account :)
I also had the premium bar put on my account too. The only issue with this is that some free surveys and the like "appear as" premium rate and I cannot use them. One of Vodafone's own "how did we do?" surveys which was totally free, seemed to appear as premium as I couldn't reply to it.

Well the number that got charged is always in the modem/router they provided (Its a 4G broadband service) so i can't have subscribed via text message, EE said they can't block the payment or stop the subscription (only the ones going forward) and i have to contact the company that i apparently made a subscription with. I don't know the company name but the service is some bollywood fan club - priyanka chopra. Looks like ill have to contact them in the morning.

I had something very similar, a £5 premium charge on my phone bill, used the time and date on the bill to track it back to a spam text message I'd received about a prize draw to win a Range Rover.

To my knowledge I'd never signed up for anything, certainly not knowingly anyway, after much googling I tracked down the company, after sending an email demanding they remove my number and refund the charge, they sent me a code to redeem at the post office to get my £5 back.

It's the shadiest of shady businesses.

I got done by the same thing last week, phoned provider, charge refunded and premium messages blocked now so it can't happen again

I got caught with something like this and got charged a fiver for receiving a text!?

EE said they'd refund it and then didn't but I failed to notice for a month and they started being dicks! Leaving them soon!

EE then terminate service due to non-payment of bill, OP gets black mark on credit file. Job not done.

Who cares if they terminate service though, you can just create a new account. Black mark of 1 phone payment isn't going to count for anything, I've had that on my account due to errors on the phone companies side and it has never affected my ability to get credit.

Far better than spending 50 quid worth of your time trying to stop the subscription being taken out.

And you think EE will drop the matter just like that? Bearing in mind that depending on the contract the OP may end up owing them several hundred or even £1k+?

If it was that easy then everyone would be taking out £60/month contracts for new 128gb iPhones and then just not bothering to pay...

EE should be able to block any further charges, but I don't believe they have any obligation to refund the payments already taken - how are they to know if they were legit or not?

Sticking your head in the sand and refusing to pay for the contract you signed is just going to cause more hassle than going after the company taking the money in the first place.

Of course if you're on pay as you go then ignore that, and just get a new sim :p

EE are a bunch of tossers thats why im cancelling this service once the 12 month mark is up, im more ****** off at EE tbh they should realise this is a scam and block that company.

Well i rang the company and they would only say that they are called 'customer services' and wouldn't give me a company name, the first chap i rang was rude and kept getting my number wrong etc, and said there was no subscription and only after i told him about getting their details from EE and threatening Ofcom and psa authority etc he acknowledged it and said he would look into the matter to get it cancelled.

I then rang them a second time and this chap found the subscription straight away and told me there is a subscription and i will get an email within 48 hours explaining how the subscription was made and if i'm eligible for a refund (the subscription itself is cancelled).

This is becoming quite a hassle tbh, whats to stop this happening again and then going through the same process if EE can't be arsed helping their customers out.
