I've been using Booking.com now for a few years to book my stays when I go away on holidays and have always enjoyed paying when I arrive in cash, a few times and yet again today the apartment I have selecting is adverting they won't take any payment until i arrive and I can pay in cash ! Well yet again today I have had the full amount debited off my card and it really makes me mad, its over a week yet until we stay , I have just emailed them asking why with no reply yet , I get that some hotels need to charge in advance and advise this in the print but this hotel I have booked with advises it wont take any payment until we arrive So why bloody do it , may be harsh but as I did with the other apartment they will be getting a BAD rating from me for lying about there terms.

As above. Their customer service is great and if this really was their mistake then they'll rectify it.

Its not going to be a problem as my bank will just refund me the money if I tell them I don't use booking.com or know this hotel as I've done that before but that's not the point ha , the point is they shouldn't be putting messages on the website saying book today and pay when you arrive ! but in reality they have charged my card a week before i have arrive lol . luckly I have the funds in my bank but not everyone will.

You're being charged through booking.com though not the place you're staying so don't go off the deep end at them take it up with booking.com and stop using the bank to get the money back by lying to them.

Booking.com don't take the money ! they run the site , they have nothing to do with the payments taken in advance, the details are sent to the hotels.

You made a booking for a hotel through booking.com

They've made a mistake.

You've then lied to your bank claiming you don't use the hotel or use bookings.com

This is fraudulent.

Not when I have not authorised this payment pal.

Of course it is fraud. You can tell the bank the truth and tell them that the money is not meant to be taken out yet but telling them you dont use the website or hotel is most definitely fraud and is provable with an electronic form of which you signed at booking.

Regardless of whether they are meant to take the money or not, making the claim from the bank on the basis that you did not book with them will make you look like you plan on getting a free holiday or making another claim on the money directly with the Hotel.

If I was to stay in the hotel and then do this once I had used the hotel then yes correct it would be Fraud ! I don't intend to do this.

In some cases, prior to your arrival, the property may pre-authorize your card to confirm that your card is valid and hasn’t been lost or stolen. This can appear as a temporary reduction in your balance, but is not the actual charge. For further details, you can contact your credit card provider.

Taken from booking.com booking email, it sounds like this is probably what is happening rather than them taking the money.

A good point.

The company i work for do this on orders made by debit-card that cannot be fulfilled immediately and go onto backorder. No money has been taken, it is essentially a request to authorised debit cards.

Fairly normal with things you book in advanced like hotels or when ordering something that cannot be shipped immediately.

£1 charge can be done to check this not £150 for a 2 night stay !

My point is on booking.com you can select what Hotels take money before and what don't ! This hotel I booked come under = We will not take any payment before your say with us - pay on your arrival ! that is my point here.

If you pay in advance you normally save 10% on your booking. I did not select this option , so technically speaking I have not authorised this payment.
